“Or better than in bed. I’ll get him in the pool.” Milly grins, leaning against the edge of the pool, kicking her legs. “Just imagine—Enzo’s tattooed abs glistening in the sun while I’m holding his waist, looking all hot and bothered.”

I scrunch my nose, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks. “That sounds...risky.”

“Risky?” She laughs loudly, splashing water at me again. “Girl, you’ve got Mateo Conti lurking around! That’s risky!”

My stomach knots at the thought of Con and Enzo together. “It’s not like I want anything to do with Con.”

“Maybe he likes you and that’s why he reacted the way he did. Because you saw him.”

“He hates me.”

Milly raises an eyebrow. “Sure about that? He practically cornered you at the party.” She leans closer, eyes sparkling with mischief. “You know what I’d do if he came after me? I’d show him who’s boss.”

“Milly!” My face feels hotter than the sun beating down on us. “And how do you plan to do that?”

“With my body,” she winks at me. “The more daring, the better! I’d leave him on the floor begging at my feet. I’d show him who he’s dealing with.”

“And you’re forgetting who he is.”

“He’s mafia, not god!”

“Both untouchable.” I roll my eyes but can’t hide my grin.

She smirks and leans back against the edge again. “Forget about Con anyway; Dom’s in the house. He won’t let anyone touch you.”

I shoot her a look. “Dom won’t let anyone touch me. What makes you think that?”

“Duh! He’s like a protective bear with a soft spot for you,” she replies, flicking water at me again. “You’re practically his daughter.”

I sigh, dragging my fingers through my wet hair as unease settles in my stomach. “But I’m not, and Con is Antonio’s son—I’m just a Bailey.”

“So what?” Milly shrugs as if it doesn’t matter at all.

“So everything!” My voice rises slightly before I rein it in.

Poppy comes sprinting back fully dressed, her wet hair pulled back into a tight bun and looking every bit the dancer she is as she stands at the edge of the pool.

“Amara! Can you drive me home?” she asks breathlessly.

“What time is it?” Milly asks. “I need to get dressed too—gotta make sure I look hot enough for this drive to Brisbane before traffic builds up.”

“In case you get stopped by the police?”

“You never know where you’ll meet your future husband.”

I shake my head. I really wish I had her personality. She’s all bravado and balls. “Are you popping in to see Helena while you’re up there?” I ask.

Milly bursts into laughter. “She just left! I think I can survive another few weeks without seeing her!”

“Will you still be here when I get back from Poppy’s home?” I ask Milly as she wraps a towel around herself.

“I don’t know. I’m heading out in an hour. Gotta beat the traffic.” Milly pulls Poppy into a tight hug. “Well done again.”

She turns to me next, her arms wrapping around my shoulders. I breathe in the scent of chlorine and coconut shampoo.

“Be careful on the road,” I whisper into her hair.

“Right back at ya, sis.” She squeezes tighter.
