I take the steps up to her floor two at a time, not breaking a sweat as I all but run toward her dorm, adrenaline fueling me. I finally reach her floor, and I head straight to the end of the hall, but what I see has my steps stumbling and my heart climbing to my throat.
The door is ajar.
I take slow, measured steps toward it before opening it, and what I see nearly has my legs going out from beneath me—the place is trashed. Completely and utterly destroyed.
It’s clear there was a struggle.
It’s clear that whatever happened, Savannah fought back.
I both love that she did and hate that she had to.
“Sav?” I call out, even though I know it’s useless. Even though I know she won’t reply. Even though I know the only person in this place is me.
There’s no one here.
She’s gone.
But still, I take a look around in case she reallyishere, or in case someone left something behind.
Her artwork is smashed on the floor, things are thrown everywhere, the bed sheets are lying on the floor in the hallway, and her books are scattered rather than neatly stacked like they usually are.
Fuck, fuck,fuck.
IknewI should have tried harder to convince her to stay with us, but she’s just so stubborn, and no matter how much I begged or pleaded, she still wouldn’t agree.
But there’s no time for what-if’s right now. Right now, I need to figure out where she is and who took her, so I can get her back safely.
And there’s only one person I know who can help make that happen.
I take out my phone and call Logan. It rings a few times before we’re finally connected.
“What?” he answers with a grunt, and where I’d normally give him shit for it, this time I just breeze right past it.
“Someone took Sav,” I say, the words coming out in a rush and my voice cracking. “I’m at her dorm, the door was open, and the place is trashed.”
There’s silence, as though he’s processing and then says, “I’ll be there in five,” before hanging up the phone.
Okay, good. Logan’s on his way, and he’ll help find her.
We’regoingto find her, there’s no other option.
I want to cry, to rage, to throw even more shit that’s already been thrown in this dorm, but I can’t do that. I need to be strong for her. I need to keep my head together.
I can’t lose it, not when the outcome of that could be losing her.
I need her to be okay. I need to get her back in one piece, safe and sound. I need her to be strong for the both of us. I needher.
Just hold on, baby. Please, be strong and hold on for me.
SIXTY-THREE
SAVANNAH
I cometo with a gasp and look around my dorm. Only… it’s not my dorm. It’s not the cottage, and I’m not on campus. No, I’m in a room that looks vaguely familiar, with my body aching and gaps in my memory.
What the fuck happened, and where the hell am I?
I take stock of my body, noting the way I’m still wearing the same outfit I was wearing when studying at home, and that my limbs feel heavy, but otherwise I’m fine. My head is pounding, and I’m shaky as I sit up.
