He lifts one shoulder in an awkward shrug. “I wanted to see your pretty face. Sue me.” I chuckle, and his eyes light up at the sound before he sobers. “Is it okay that I called? I figured you wouldn’t have answered if it wasn’t but…”
“It’s fine,” I say gently. “I wouldn’t have answeredif I was busy.”
I’m gifted with another smile for that, and then his attention goes to a different part of his screen and he growls.
“I’m going to fucking kill Cole when I see him.”
“It’s not nice to kill your best friend,” I mutter and get more comfortable in bed, shifting so I can prop my phone against the spare pillow.
“Yeah, well, he’s a dick and would deserve it. They keep sending me pictures and videos of them all hanging out together, trying to rub in the fact I’m not with them. Then again,” he says with a wicked smirk, “if I was there with them, then I never would have bumped into you and forced you to spend time with me.”
“Hmm,” I murmur. “What would you be doing if you weren’t here? How would you have spent your summer with them?”
“Well…”
I listen to Harley as he regales me with stories of what him and his friends have gotten up to in the past, and it does nothing but remind me of how different we really are. Soon, this will be over.
Soon, I’ll be nothing but a distant memory.
I fall asleep to the sound of his voice, happy to soak up every second I get with him for now.
TEN
HARLEY
I can’t rememberthe last time I was this nervous, and it’s all because Savannah will be coming over soon. I’m almost jittery, and I’ve paced for most of the morning with my eyes constantly going from the door to the clock, as though I can somehow speed up time.
When I invited her over to have a movie day while my parents are out for the day, I didn’t realize what I was getting myself into.
I’ve never once invited a girl home before, whether it be at one of our vacation homes or our main one, so it feels really freaking weird to know I’m going to have her in my space. In my home.
Not only that, but I feel like maybe she just agreed to come because she didn’t want to say no, which is the worst feeling ever, but surely, she would tell me if she didn’t want to? She’s never had a problem refusing me before, so why would she start now?
You’re overthinking things, Harley.
Things have been going well between us, and we’ve beenseeing each other every few days for the last couple of weeks. She was hesitant at first, but I think I’ve finally gotten her to come around.
Ever since the day at the fair, we’d gotten a lot closer. We text at all hours of the day and night, getting to know each other or going to the beach or around the town just for something to do. We’ve kissed twice—always chaste—and that’s it. I usually make sure she’s the one to make the first move because I have no idea how much experience she has, and I don’t want her to feel pressured into anything.
My interest would normally be waning by now, since I’ve never been the type to take things slow, but there’s something about Savannah I just can’t shake. Every time she laughs, it fills me with something foreign that I’ve never felt before. Every time she smiles, I can’t help but grin back at her because it’s just so damn contagious. Every little thing I learn about her leaves me wanting more.
As soon as I wake up in the morning, I’m checking my phone to see if there are any messages from her, and every time I fall asleep, it’s with her on my mind.
I’m fucking falling for the girl, and I don’t want it to stop.
Never in my life have I wanted to spend so much time with someone, but I want to see her every day. I want all of her attention focused on me, and I want her to be obsessed with me as I’m becoming with her.
The doorbell rings, and it’s only seconds later that I’m swinging the door open to reveal Savannah.
Fuck, she’s a vision.
She looks more beautiful now than she did that night at the party, wearing leggings and a hoodie with her hair high on top of her head, her face free from makeup.
I love how she doesn’t feel the need to dress up around me like so many other girls. Sure, whenever we gosomewhere, she’ll dress up to a certain extent, but it’s more than that.
When talking to someone else, she slips into the role she’s played her entire life—the one of the billionaire’s daughter. But when it’s just the two of us, she’s just Savannah.MySavannah.
There’s something so fucking sexy about the way she just doesn’t care what I think about her, and honestly, I’d choose comfort over style any day.
