All of them grinned.
“That’s our wives dying to talk to Sierra about you two living together,” Devon informed me. “The cobbler might take a while.”
“Do I need to rescue her?” I asked in a concerned voice.
“Nah,” Tanner said. “None of them will push her for anything she doesn’t really want to share.”
“Besides, we have a few questions for you,” Millie said in an ominous voice.
I smiled at her, surprised that I really didn’t mind that I was about to get grilled by my family, too.
Sierra
Iwas going to die.
I knew it.
Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing I could do to change my fate.
A loud gasp filled the bathroom, my pathetic attempt to draw a breath when my head was yanked out of a bathtub full of water.
I spewed water before I could get any air, the water I’d swallowed before he’d dunked my head again.
I opened my eyes to see the maniacal look in my husband’s eyes.
He’d tilted heavily into insanity, and there was no reasoning with him.
“Tell me the truth, Sierra!” he insisted loudly as his grip on my wet hair tightened until I thought the hair would be detached from my head.
I said nothing.
We’d been through this for so long that I wasn’t sure how long he’d been taking me to the brink of death in this bathroom.
I’d lost consciousness twice, certain I was never going to open my eyes again.
Jordan knew the truth.
I’d given it to him over and over again.
He wanted me to lie, to die groveling, begging him not to kill me.
I refused to give him what he wanted.
He was going to kill me anyway.
At least I could die with a modicum of dignity.
Maybe that wasn’t much since I was probably blue and I’d spilled a sea of red onto the bathroom floor, bleeding heavily from the injuries he’d given me before this endless drowning attempt. But I refused to give him the satisfaction of hearing me lie before he ended my life.
“Tell me!” he bellowed.
“I told you the truth,” I said, panting because my body was low on oxygen.
“Bitch!” he screamed and slammed my head under the water again.
I tried my best to hold my breath, but I knew the wait for air was going to be long.
I was going to take my last breath soon.
