Monroe rose. “G, walk me to the lobby.”

Gabriel rose, glared at Wolf. “Small world.”

“Unfortunately,” Wolf replied.

As the foursome made the way through the main dining room, Gabriel couldn’t help but feel eyes on them.

Unfriendly ones.

They left the restaurant, stopping on the sidewalk out front to say their goodbyes. The chilly winter air had him removing his jacket, draping it over Halston’s shoulders.

“Hey, you!” a man shouted out a car window.

All four whipped their heads around.

The masked man stuck the barrel of a gun out the window.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Gabriel stepped in front of Halston, pulled his CANiK, and opened fire.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

The car sped forward, vanishing around the corner.

Gabriel spun around. “Are you hit? Are you okay?”

“I’m good,” Halston replied. “Check on Monroe.”

Monroe was crouched behind the valet stand. Gabriel knelt beside her. “Are you hit?”

“No, I wasn’t.”

They stood.

Wolf had moved away, engaged in a heated conversation on his phone. He hung up, strode back over. “Who the hell was that?”

“No idea,” Gabriel replied. “Both shooter and driver were masked.”

“I’ve got someone looking for them,” Wolf said.

“Who were they gunning for?” Halston asked.

“Me,” Monroe and Wolf said at the same time.

Gabriel shifted from one to the other, then regarded Halston. “Let’s get you inside.”

“I’m out.” Monroe tossed Wolf a nod. “I’ll be in touch.” She vanished inside the waiting sedan, and it pulled away from the curb.

The attendant opened the door to the club. After Halston hurried inside, Gabriel glared at her brother. “What job do you have my cousin doing for you?”

“No comment,” Wolf replied.

Heat scorched Gabriel’s chest. He hadn’t even gotten a single day of calm before the next round of mayhem reared its ugly head.

In the club’s foyer, Gabriel tamed his runaway hair with his hand. “If that assignment gets Monroe killed, I will hunt you down.”

Before Wolf could respond, the door to the club opened again. In walked Greystone and Caroline, Teddy and Sydney,Luciano and Simone. After Gabriel greeted his family, the maître d' escorted Caroline, Sydney, and Simone—now four months pregnant—to a table in the main dining room.
