As she pushed out of bed, she shot him a smarmy smile. “You got stamina.”

“I’m addicted to you, so expect another text.”

She left him in bed, vanishing into the bathroom.

He followed, removed the condom she’d brought.

They’d used three condoms, he’d gone down on her twice more, and he’d gotten anotherphenomenalblowjob. More than the sex high, he was buzzing fromher. He didn’t want their perfect evening to end. But reality was fast approaching, and he needed to grab a shower at home, then head to the Black Site.

As he cleaned himself off, he said, “Things are hella crazy at work, but I’d love to take you to dinner or even make you dinner. I’m pretty decent on the grill. Whatever you want.”

“I’d love that,” she replied before she sat on the toilet. “I really have to pee. You gonna freak out on me?”

He leaned down, kissed the top of her head. “It’s all good.”

Back in the suite, they dressed. He, in his suit, and she, in her costume. After he re-holstered his gun, he knelt to strap hers around her calf. Then, he helped her into her boots and zipped them for her. When he stood, she kissed him.

“I’ve been stressed to the max,” she murmured. “You were the perfect escape.”

He flashed her a smile before checking his phone. Hawk had texted him the code to alarm the club. As they walked down the hall, he clasped her hand. “I’m not ready to say goodbye.”

“Good, ‘cause I need a ride home.”

As they walked through the quiet club toward the front door, Sydney’s phone binged repeatedly in her hand.

He glanced over. “Everything okay?”

“I just turned off my Do Not Disturb.”

At the front door, he entered the security code. When the lights on the panel started flashing, he opened the front door. Sydney stood frozen, her focus still cemented on her device.

“Sydney, we gotta go.”

She hurried outside.

He confirmed the exterior door was shut and locked before returning his attention to her. “What’s going on?”

Still no response, but the crisp morning air had him removing his suit coat and draping it over her shoulders.

She peered up at him, blinked several times, then went right back to her phone. As she dialed, she said to him, “Thank you,” and slipped her arms into the jacket.

The call Sydney made started ringing, the shrill sound piercing the early-morning air. As he studied her face, he couldn’t help but notice the tension around her eyes. When the call rolled to voicemail, she hung up.

Then, she got busy sending a text. After another moment, her gaze found his. A brief smiled touched her eyes, then she turned back to her phone. “Dammit, she’s not texting me back.”

“It’s six-fifteen in the morning,” he said. “Maybe she’s sleeping.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right, but I need to do a welfare check.”

Not alone.

“I’ll take you.” He grasped her hand, took off toward his SUV, parked nearby. He opened the passenger door for her. Once she was seated, he leaned in and kissed her. “Because I can’t resist you.”

They shared a smile before he shut the passenger door, got behind the wheel.

“Where to, boss?”

“My friend Naomi’s house.”
