He poured, handed her the glass.

“Are you hungry?” he asked. “You want to eat, then talk shop or?—”

“I can tell you’re nervous.” She placed her palm on his chest sending a jolt of electricity streaming through him. “We’ve got history. I need help with this case, a case I don’t actually have. You agreed to work with me and that could involve sex. I don’tknow if there are cameras in the VIP rooms, but even if there are, we don’t have to get physical. Sometimes, people just talk.”

He took the wine glass from her, set it on the counter. With both hands on her shoulders, he peered into her eyes. “I don’t do strip clubs, never been in a VIP room. If I go into one with you, we ain’t gonna be talking.”

She arched an eyebrow at him. “You are cocky, you know that?”

“Sex with us was good. We were awkward, then we figured it out. Together.”

A whisper of a smile danced in her eyes. “Then, we got good at it. Real good.”

“But it wasn’t just sex. It was love.”

Her expression dipped, her shoulders fell. His heart broke for the pain he’d caused her, for the pain he’d caused himself.

“Not love,” she murmured. “We were just kids finding our way.”

Was she lying to herself? Was this how she’d changed the narrative in order to move on?

“It was love for me, Amanda May.”

“Amanda May was a project for Elsa,” she said. “Don’t get me wrong, I adore her, but that teen is long gone. I’m Slash now.”

“Okay,Slash. When we go into Blue Suit, I own you.”

“Free use.”

“Lots and lots of sex.”

“Then, you’ll have it.”

“Not for me,” he rasped. “For you. I can’t wait to watch you unravel while I pleasure you over and over again.”

Like an eclipse, her pupils darkened her piercing blue eyes.

“Whatever,” she said, but her body did not lie. Her body never lied. At least, not to him.

He stared into her eyes while the tension swirled around them, like an angry tornado tearing up every damn thing in itspath. An overwhelming need to bury himself inside her had a growl ripping from his throat.

“I’m out of control around you,” he said just before he kissed her.

Her low, raspy moan had him thrusting his tongue into her mouth. She pressed herself against him while the kiss continued.

He explored her mouth with relentless desire while she snaked her arms around him and grabbed his ass.

“I need you,” he murmured.

She broke away from him. Her eyes were wild with lust, her breathing coming fast. “I want you to be out of your mind for me, so when we fuck, you’ll know what you can never, ever have.”

She fisted her hands on her hips, but shedidn’twipe the wetness from her mouth. “Let’s make dinner. We’ve got a lot to strategize.”

His damn balls ached, but he bit back a smile as he walked onto his deck and fired up the grill. He left the French doors open, returned to the kitchen, pulled up a playlist of classic rock. Music flowed through the house while he seasoned the steaks.

“Medium rare?” he asked.

“That’ll work,” she replied as she pulled a knife from its block and began slicing the potatoes.
