“How’s it going?” Carrera asked.
“We’re hoping you’re free later this afternoon,” Jazz said.
“We’re getting married!” Russell announced. “Can you be my best man?”
Carrera slid his gaze to Slash who was busy on her laptop. “Don’t you want the fam there, Jazz?”
“It’s definitely happening fast, but we’ll have a big reception after Russell wins the election,” she said.
“We’ve got an appointment today at four at the Arlington courthouse,” Russell said.
“I asked Gracie if she could make it, but her whole day is booked,” Jazz explained.
While Carrera was disappointed for his sis, he was relieved Gracie wasn’t bolting at the last minute.”
“Maybe Slash can come with you?” Jazz asked.
“How many witnesses do you need?” Carrera asked.
“None,” Russell said. “We don’t need any, but we want you there.”
“I’ll be there,” Carrera replied.
After hanging up, he asked Slash, “Babe, what’s on your schedule today?”
“We’re moving forward with an arrest at Blue Suit, so I’ve got meetings and strategy sessions at the Bureau.”
G-ma entered the kitchen, still in her robe. “You two are up early.”
“We’ve got early morning meetings,” Carrera replied.
“Elsa, what are you doing today?” Slash asked.
“I’m going grocery shopping,” G-ma said. “Lunch with a friend, then Luciano is stopping by.”
Carrera handed her his credit card, but she refused him. Rather than get into it with her, he thanked her.
He opted to say nothing about Jazz’s last-minute nuptials. The messenger always got shot. Instead, he said, “Slash, how ‘bout we drive in together?”
“I’ll take you up on that,” she replied.
After a quick breakfast, they were out the door and on their way to work.
“Jazz and Russell called me,” he said. “They’re having a quickie wedding at the courthouse today.”
“Wow, that’s fast.”
“They invited me. Jazz asked if you’d come.”
“Hmm, what time?”
“Four,” he replied.
“Do you want me there?”
“Hell, yeah.”
“What are you doing today?”
