SLASH SAYS YES
Slash
Slash parked her Suzuki Bandit 650 motorcycle at ALPHA, removed her helmet, and dismounted. She collected her things from the bike’s saddlebag and made her way toward the employee entrance, located in the rear of the building.
At seven-ten in the morning, only a handful of cars peppered the parking lot.
Normally, she rolled in around eight-thirty or nine, but since she’d gotten no more than three hours sleep, she decided to get a jump on the day.
She could thank herlackof sleep on that dickwad of a man, Carrera Santini. If there was anyone who could ruin her day or suck the life out of a fun event, it was him. But last night, as she tossed and turned, she couldn’t shake his gorgeous face or rock-hard body from her thoughts. That man had it goin’ on.
That man is an asshole.
Pushing him from her thoughts, she stood in front of the retina scanner. The light turned green, she yanked open the door, and walked inside.
ALPHA was located in Tysons, Virginia, a bustling suburb located twenty minutes outside DC. While the top-secret, off-the-books organization was a part of the Department of Justice, very few within the federal government knew of its existence.
The warehouse-like structure sat tucked at the end of a quiet street. The windowless building bore the sign ALPHA MEAT PACKING over the front door.
The only thing an ALPHA Operative packed was heat.
After years with the Bureau, she’d been selected to be an Operative, something she took great pride in. Then, more recently, she’d earned a coveted spot on ALPHA’s BLACK OPS rescue team.
Between those gigs and her regular ALPHA caseload, she was stretched pretty thin. But she didn’t have a man in her life, she had no kids, didn’t even have a pet, so she put all her energy into going after the worst criminals in the country. She’d made a career of chasing scum. And she was damn good at it.
Sometimes, she’d make an arrest. Other times, she’d get called in for a specialty mission. Those were her favorite, and they included hunting down and eliminating a serial killer or serial rapist. Might be a pedophile who needed to be taken out. Some had been arrested, then released on a technicality. Some had escaped the slammer. Whatever their poison, she lived to chase evil.
As of late, she’d segued from having a regular caseload to becoming more of a specialist. Her area of interest was violent crimes committed against women. She believed these criminals had a special place in hell, and she was more than happy to help them get there.
She turned the corner, entered her office, and set her bags down. Once she connected her laptop to the large monitor, she logged in and got to work.
Space at ALPHA HQ had been tight for months. At present, Slash was sharing her office with Brit Skye Dillinger and Addison Skye Hawk, sisters who had become two of her closest friends.
Her top priority was finding a convicted serial rapist who’d intentionally injured himself in prison. From there, he’d been taken to a nearby hospital. Two days later, while guards were escorting him to the transfer van, he’d escaped with the help of an unknown accomplice. Her concern was that he was going to start assaulting and attacking women while he fled from authorities. Her mission? Find him before the police did, and shut him down for good. That hunt had proven harder than she’d anticipated.
At some point, Brit walked in.
“Hey, mama,” Slash said.
Brit set down her things. “I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever. How was your mission?”
“Good,” Slash replied. “We rescued the women. But check this out… the traffickers had all been killed.”
“Hmm,” Brit said before pulling her laptop from her computer bag. “By us?”
“No. Sin went in first and he spoke with someone in a ski mask.”
Brit scowled. “Who?”
Slash tucked her hair behind her ears. “No idea.”
“Did you ask around?”
“No.” Slash stood.
“Break room?” Brit asked.
