“I’m not there, so I’ll see you at the event. Love you, baby. See you Saturday, Carrera.” Evangeline hung up.

“You do great things for those kids,” Carrera said.

“Evangeline and I love working with them,” Sin said as he pulled up to the curb at FBI headquarters. “What’s the plan for Saturday?”

“Cocktails at five,” Carrera said. “We cruise at six.”

“Thanks for the text earlier,” Sin said. “Z might have been testing you.”

On a chuckle, Carrera opened the door. “Too many damn mind games for me.”

“Ah, my friend, the mind fucks have just begun,” Sin said. “Welcome to therealshow.”

Carrera entered the building, but instead of heading upstairs to his office, he took the elevator to the parking garage.

Once in his ALPHA SUV, he headed toward Carrera Cruises, stopping to pick up a surprise for Slash before continuing on to his offices.

To his relief, he found his employees hard at work. They greeted him with a friendly smile, or a wave if they were on the phone. His dad was in a meeting with the accounting team, so Carrera checked his texts.

He had two. The one from Slash sent a hit of adrenaline through him. He clicked on it.

Gotta cancel tonight

Hell, no.

Rather than text her, he called.

“Hey,” she answered, “you got my text.”

“What’s going on?”

“I’m so damn frustrated.”

“Tell me.”

“Providence texted me for an update. I told her I need more time, but they want to move in for an arrest.”

“You still don’t know who the owner is. I’ll work my charm on Karen tonight.”

“You call that charm?” He could hear the smile in her voice. Loved that he could do that for her. She was under a lot of pressure.

“I’ll pick you up in an hour,” he said.

“I should get to the club, pick up a bartender shift before you show up.”

Dammit.

“Babe. One hour on my boat.” Silence, so he pressed on. “You have to eat. Being out on the water is your happy place.”

“You remembered,” she murmured.

If he didn’t get off the phone, she’d change her mind again. “I’ll see you in an hour.”

He hung up, found his dad in his office.

“Hey, Carrera,” his dad said. “How’s your search going?”

How does he know about the missing persons cases?
