Carrera finished massaging her, then dropped a worshipful kiss on her lips. “Sleep, my angel.” Then, he walked around her bed and crawled in beside her.

“Smooth move.”

“I do this with all my massage clients.” He pulled her onto him, so her head rested on his chest, and he folded his arms around her.

“Thank you for the massage,” she murmured as she relaxed onto him.

Within seconds, she was asleep.

A sadness washed over him. He had no idea what she’d been through. She never talked about it. G-ma hadn’t either. Once, inthe middle of their senior year of high school, he asked her how she ended up living with his grandmother.

“She’s my guardian angel,” Amanda May had replied.

Since she didn’t answer his question, he asked G-ma. Her answer was just as vague. “God’s plan.”

He’d been looking for an answer he hadn’t been mature enough to hear.

But he could handle it now. He could be the man Slash needed. The one who had her back and put her first.

His heart broke for what she’d had to endure on her own. At the very least, he owed his grandmother a thank you. But he could do much, much better than that.

He could show thembothhe was worthy of Amanda May’s love.

Slash

Slash woke feeling fantastic, thanks to the very sexy man snuggling behind her. She was at a crossroads. Limp along, terrified he’d hurt her again, or throw aside her fears, live like the boss she was, and give him a legit second chance.

Before she said anything to him, there was one person’s advice she revered above all else.

Until then… a little early morning fun wouldn’t hurt. She rolled toward him and was met with large brown eyes and a sleepy smile.

“Why, it’s my uber-talented massage therapist,” she said. “What are you doing here?”

“I couldn’t leave,” he murmured.

“Well, now you’re my prisoner,” she said climbing on top of him. “And I can’t let you escape without sealing your secrets with a kiss.”

She married her lips to his and kissed him good. Real good. So good, Mr. Woody woke up, and was pressing against her bladder.

“Romance takes a back seat to peeing,” she said before stealing one more kiss.

Into the bathroom she went. Seconds later, Carrera walked in. After she peed, she went in search of a toothbrush. She found a new one from her dentist’s office. He brushed beside her, their gazes cemented on their reflections in the mirror.

When they finished, she asked, “What are you plans today?”

“I gotta meet with Z, so he can start handing off his responsibilities to me, then I can help you with the cases.”

“Don’t sweat it,” she said. “I’m following up with the detectives I didn’t talk to yesterday, and have more family members to question. It’ll take me a few days, at least.”

She clasped his hand, led him out of the bathroom, and over to the bed. “We have unfinished business.”

He swept her into his arms and they fell into bed.

She pulled a condom box from her night table, opened the sealed box, and tore off a packet. “Where were we?”

“You were thanking your massage therapist.”

She pressed her mouth to his and kissed him. Delicious tingles spread through her while he deepened the kiss and palmed her ass. Like a struck match, her insides ignited.
