He grabbed his weapon, bolted downstairs. The house was dark and quiet. Too quiet. He slunk into the kitchen and a stabbing pain seared his foot. Shattered glass from the kitchen window lay everywhere.

Movement caught his eye as a baseball bat loomed into view. He jumped out of the way, grabbed the wooden bat, and flung it over his shoulder.

Then, he raised his Glock. “Down on the floor, or I’ll shoot!”

“You cock-sucking motherfucker! You killed my brother!” The intruder charged at him.

Carrera opened fire.POP! POP! POP!

The man dropped.

What the fuck was that?

He pulled the shard of glass from the bottom of his foot before confirming the man was dead. Then, he charged upstairs to grab his phone. He dialed. The phone rang and rang.

“What?” Teddy grumbled. “I’m sleeping.”

“Clean up on aisle five,” Carrera said.

“Shit, are you for real?” Teddy asked.

Carrera stayed silent.

“On my way.” The line went dead.

Carrera eyed the trail of blood from his foot before he pulled on boots and strode into his garage for a tarp. Back in the kitchen, he dragged the man onto the plastic covering, pulled up IDware—Stryker Truman’s facial-recognition app—and held his phone to the dead man’s face. Then, he wrapped him in the tarp. Seconds later, the software came back with a result.

The man who tried to kill him was Glazer’s brother, and most likely the man who fled from Glazer’s house.

He tailed me home.

Luciano had a rule. No phone calls, emails, or texts about jobs. But Carrera needed to let his cousin know, so he called him.

Luciano answered right away. “Santini.”

“Clean up on aisle five.”

“Are you alone?”

“Teddy’s coming over.”

“Understood.” Luciano hung up.

Carrera cleared the shards of glass from the floor, the kitchen counter, and from the sink.

Ten minutes later, Teddy showed up with a scowl and an attitude. “What the fuck happened?”

“I was attacked in my home.”

“Who is it?”

“Glazer’s brother.” He showed him the pic on his phone. “I need to board up my window. Can you move the body without me?”

“No prob,” Teddy replied.

Carrera rolled his motorcycle into the corner of his three-car garage so Teddy could back his truck in. Once the garage door closed, Carrera boarded up his window while Teddy tied rope around the tarp, then dragged Glazer’s wrapped body into the garage.

Together, they lifted it into the SUV.
