Inside, he made his way over to the bar. The place was less crowded than the weekend, but still busy for a Monday. He glanced around for Slash, and found her talking to a bartender.

As he made his way through the club, he eyed the dancers on all four stages, he counted five women giving lap dances, and a few more dancing on the tables.

Tonight, he wanted answers from Karen Woodside about the man who’d been in her office… the last person Deb had been seen with.

He walked down the hallway, stopped in front of the GM’s office.

Knock-knock.

A minute later, Karen swung open the door and painted on a smile. “Mr. Amos, hello, hello. How’re things with Slash?”

“They’re fine, but I like chatty women. Women who entertain me with their words. Can I interest you in a drink?”

Her face flushed so red, he thought she might keel over. She ran her fingers through her hair, flicked her head. “I’ll be right out.”

He glanced over her shoulder. “Are you in the middle of something?”

She opened the door wider. “I was hoping my boyfriend would be stopping by, but he can’t make it.”

“I’ll save you a seat.”

She giggled as she shut the door.

Bait cast. Bait taken.

As he made his way through the club, he spotted Slash serving drinks at the bar. He slid into an empty seat and waited while she finished up with customers.

She sidled over, set a napkin down in front of him. “Hello, Mr. Anus. Are you ready for me?”

“I’m always ready for you,” he murmured.

Her gaze darkened. “I like that.”

“I’m having a drink with the GM,” he said.

“What’s your poison?”

“You,” he replied.

“Here she comes,” Slash said.

“Finger’s worth, top-shelf whiskey,” he said.

“Just one finger?”

“I’m saving the other two for you,” he murmured as Karen pulled up beside him.

Karen’s lip curled when she spotted Slash behind the bar.

“Let’s sit at a table,” Karen said.

“I like the one in the corner,” he said. “What are you drinking?”

“I can’t. I’m working.”

“One drink,” Carrera pushed. “What’s the harm in that?”

“I’m such an easy drunk.”
