“You ready to call it?” she asked.

“No.”

She started to remove her dress, but he stopped her. “I’m ready to leave, but I’m not ready to say goodnight.”

He couldn’t read her. Did she like what he’d just said? Was her mind on work? He’d wait until they could talk in private.

They left the kink room. Saturday at one in the morning and the club was wall-to-wall with members. He clasped her hand, led her through the crowd, and out into the night.

The balmy breeze cooled his heated skin.

“I thought I was in shape, but I’m not,” he said. “You’re wearing me out.”

“You gotta get out there and prime the pump,” she said.

He laughed. “I don’t want what’s out there.”

“Now that you’re back in the area, jump in the dating pool.”

He walked her to her SUV. “No.”

She opened the door. “We gotta talk about tonight. Meet for coffee tomorrow?”

What? Hell, no.

“No, we should talktonight,” he insisted. “I’ll swing by.”

“Is your pool open?”

“For you, it is. Did you bring a bathing suit?”

With a hint of a smile, she climbed into her vehicle, shut the door. Seconds later, she drove away.

He strode to his truck and hopped in. As he pulled out of the parking spot, the bearded guy exited the club, head down.Instead of walking into the lot, he vanished around the side of the building and disappeared into the night.

What’s up with that?

Carrera drove home, his thoughts filled with Slash. When he drove down his street, she was waiting in front of his house. Excitement pounded through him.

He parked in his garage, headed down the driveway as she pulled an overnight back from her vehicle.

“Someone came prepared,” he said.

“I’m using you for your body and your swimming pool,” she said, but he caught the playful gleam in her eyes.

In the kitchen, he offered her a glass of wine.

“Swim first,” she replied.

“Make yourself at home,” he said and poured himself a whiskey.

“Spare bedroom?” she asked.

“Upstairs,” he replied.

“I’m changing.” With her leather bag in hand, she headed toward his stairs.

He was flat-out thrilled she was there, but he didn’t want to get ahead of himself. Better to stay chill, not give off exuberant puppy vibes.
