I sat back on the bench with my eyes closed as she showered. I opened them once I heard her laughing and getting out.

When I came back into the room, she was getting dressed. She was wearing a maxi dress with the sides and back exposed. I didn’t intend to compare them, but I realized just how different Breeze and Mercedes were. Breeze was always fully clothed, pretty as fuck, and nasty when she needed to be. But Cedes? Cedes walked around like the new version of herself was payback for all the niggas that played with her. Apparently, me included.

I went to my bag, got some clothes, and started to put them on. We were getting dressed an hour early, but I didn’t even mind. Because after that last nut I felt empty inside, for real.

We got on the road and headed back home.

We had been occupying the time by her showing me updated pictures of her family, whom I hadn’t seen in just as long.

“If they’re still in California, why did you come back?” I asked.

“Because I didn’t want to be in the same place with my ex-husband. And my family loved him; it was like when we got divorced, they still were married to his ass. He was always around, so I just distanced myself and came back to a place that was familiar.”

I nodded.

The hours flew by as we caught up, and before we knew it, I was slowing to a stop in front of her house. I pulled up and put the truck in park.

“See you later, Tim. I enjoyed my night. If you change your mind about it being one time only, you know where to find me.” She leaned forward and ran her tongue across my lip.

“Aight Cedes,” I said as I kissed her and watched as she walked toward her house. I pulled off once I saw her open the door.

On the way home, I fully understood what niggas meant by 'post-nut clarity'. I felt like I had been out all night cheating on Breeze. I would be a liar if I said that I wouldn’t double back on Cedes if the opportunity presented itself. But now? I wasn’t going to be good for anything for the next couple of days. I don’t even know how I was going to approach my wife.

But I pushed it out of my mind. This was what she suggested, and we agreed on it.

When I pulled up to the house, I saw that Breeze was already home. I took a deep breath, put the car in park, and went inside. As soon as I opened the door, I could hear the shower on. I went into the kitchen to fix a drink.

When she finally came down, she was wearing nothing but a robe. When she came over and hugged me, that shit eased my mind a lot.

She asked me if I thought that anything had changed between us. At first, I admit I thought it would. But as I stood in the kitchen, wrapped up in her, discussing our reconnection trip, allthis shit was behind us. I knew that Breeze was mine from the moment I laid my eyes on her in middle school. I gave her my last name right after we both turned eighteen. She was mine.My wife. And twenty-four hours couldn’t change that.

Present Day

“Good afternoon, welcome to Long Term Therapy.” Shareese greeted us as she typed on the computer, never looking up.

I let go of Tim’s hand so he could sit while I checked us in. I set my purse on the desk, fished out my wallet, and waited for Shareese to finish typing and notice me.

Her generic smile widened into a genuine one when she saw me standing there.

“Hey, how have you been?” She pressed send, moved to her scheduling system, and checked us in. Then she turned the keypad toward me for payment.

“Great, how are you?”

“Well. Girl! Where did you get that bag? I’ve been looking high and low.” She noticed the newest addition to my collection resting on the desk.

“One of the representatives at the store called me when they got in. I’ll give you her number,” I offered

“Please and thank you.” She slid her chair toward the printer and waited for my receipt. We always found something to chat about when I came.

I scribbled the store rep’s name and number on the back, handed it back to her, and then walked across the room to sit beside Tim.

He was casually scrolling on his phone. When he scrolled past a Wells Fargo bank ad, I had a sudden realization.

“Oh! Baby, did you get that invitation for the event at the new bank?”

He met my eyes slowly.
