Callie took a breath and stood up straight, rolling out her shoulders. “You’re more than what you have or haven’t done in your life, Evander. And yourjobdoesn’t define who you are in here.” She touched his chest.

“God, you’re perfect.” He kissed her atop the head.

He really had lucked out. There was such an air of innocence and kindness surrounding Callie unlike anything he’d ever seen in another human. It was as if she were incapable of viewing the negative in people. After dealing with the worst of the worst most nights, it was refreshing coming home to her.

But as much as he was grateful to have her, she was a target. One he was determined to protect until his last breath. Bastian had told him every asshole in the city was going to have her on their radar once they found out about her—and they would. He knew that. He’d just have to be smarter, more careful, because he wasn’t willing to give her up. She was his and that wasn’t up for debate.

“I thought I had more,” she said. With her hands on her hips, she looked around the small apartment again. “I guess I’m done.” She reached for a small jewelry box, moving it from side to side. Her eyes appeared watery as she looked at it.

“Something special?” he asked.

“It was my mother’s. The only thing I have to remember her. When I was younger, she never let me touch it.”

“I’m glad you’re bringing it. It’s pretty.”

She smiled. “I think I’m done here.”

“Not much stuff. Even easier for me,” he said with a wink.

“It’s just kind of sad, you know?”

“What do you mean?” he asked.

She waved her hand. “This is it. Everything. In twenty-one years, my life fits in a few cardboard boxes.” She jutted her chin toward the only window. “And that dumb couch.”

“So what. Who saysthingsmatter?”

Callie shrugged.

“I guess you’re right.” She set the jewelry box down and came close to him, grabbing his t-shirt in both her fists. He could feel her mix of vulnerability and desire and it was irresistible. “Who needs things?”

“Not you,” he whispered, tilting her chin up. “Because I’m going to take care of you.”

She let out a little relaxed exhale, but said nothing.

“We aren’t in a rush to get out of here, are we?” he asked. Evander wanted to claim her right here and now. To connectwith her on a deeper level. To show her he belonged to her alone just as she belonged to him. The bed was right behind her, and it was calling to him, had been since they first walked in. He could already envision fucking her brains out, the old springs creaking as he made her scream for more.

As if sensing his intentions, she gave a little smile. “I’m paid up until the end of the month.”

“Tell me, little one,” he said as he tugged her shirt up over her head and tossed it on top of the boxes. “Has another man ever been in that bed?”

She shook her head. “I told you, you’re the only man I’ve been with.”

His cock was like granite.

Evander unclasped her bra, releasing her big sloping tits. He sat on the edge of the old bed. “Feed them to me.”

He waited, his cock throbbing as he watched her do as told. She held up one of her large, soft breasts and held it in front of his mouth. He took it in, sucking on her lush nipple. Evander groaned, holding her ass firmly in each hand as he suckled her tit.

He pulled off with a smacking sound. “Everything off. I want you completely naked.”

She audibly swallowed, but did as he asked. Callie shimmied out of her pants and then cautiously removed her panties. She looked so fucking lush and edible, those soft, pale curves called to him.

“That’s a girl.” He beckoned her closer. “This body is mine. Now and always. Do you understand?”

She nodded.

“Say it please.”
