There was nothing nine-to-five about this man, especially as it was two in the morning, and he didn’t even carry a briefcase. He lived in luxury, but mostly carried a black duffel bag, and didn’t give the businessman vibe. At least Guy’s Titties had provided her with that kind of knowledge.
“I think we should go to bed,” he said.
Callie knew there was a chance he would try to stop this, so she pulled her negligee over her head. The truth was, she had no idea what she was doing. Standing completely naked and vulnerable to him, she stared in his eyes. Evander didn’t waver.
“I’m yours,” she said. “Every single part of me belongs to you. There is no part of me I will hide. I’ll be open and honest with you. All I ask in return, is that you be the same with me. You should trust that I won’t run away screaming from the man you are.Really are.”
This time, she didn’t waver, not even as he took a step toward her, then another. She kept her gaze locked on him. There was no reason to look away. Evander was not going to hurt her. The heat in his eyes told her the only risk was being fucked until she couldn’t remember her name.
She waited.
He stood right in front of her, and there was no denying he smelled so damn good. A mix of masculinity with the darkness of the night. She wanted to reach out and touch him, instead, she put her hands at the base of her back, and she knew it pushed her tits out even more. Callie wasn’t even trying to tempt him, but it felt like she was being seductive. She tilted her head to the side.
“Do you think you’re ready to know who I am?” he asked.
“You’re not a businessman. I know them. You’re something else,” she said. “And no, I don’t think vampire or otherworldly being. I think you’re something more.”
He chuckled, reached out, cupped her cheek, and she turned her head to kiss the inside of his palm.
“The question is, Evander, do you trust me enough to tell me the truth and keep me around?”
Both his hands cupped her face, and he tilted her head back to look at him.
“You’re smart,” he said.
“Or stupid.”
“No, you’re not stupid. You know I won’t hurt you, and you know I’m not who I say I am.” He took possession of her lips. “I’m not a good man.”
In between each kiss, he told her exactly who he was.
“I kill people.”
Another kiss.
“Bad people, most of the time.”
And his lips were creating havoc with her senses.
“I do it for money.”
And Callie was not shocked, nor was she scared. This made sense to her, and she ran her hands up his chest. Most women might be afraid, almost terrified, but she wasn’t most women.
Evander could have killed her back in that alley, but he didn’t. He removed her from an awful life, gave her a taste of this one, and the truth was, she was falling for him.
There was nothing more intoxicating than a man who would take care of his woman, and she felt like she was his.
Chapter Eight
“I still can’t believe how well you took everything yesterday,” he said. “You have no idea the weight off my shoulders now.”
“To be honest, I was leaning toward art thief or maybe high-end drug dealer.” She shrugged, then continued putting stuff into the cardboard box.
Evander smiled, watching her ripe ass each time she bent over. Even before he’d originally made contact with Callie, he’d been terrified of losing her because of who he was. Now, it was as close to a fucking fairy tale as it could get, in his opinion.
Things were more official now, more relaxed. She was moving into his home permanently. He would have been just as glad to buy everything new for her, but she had clothes and sentimental items in her apartment that she wanted to bring. The end of the month was coming up and she didn’t want the landlord throwing her possessions on the street. She didn’t need to know there was no chance of that as he owned the building now.
“Actually, I’ve never done drugs,” he said. “I guess that’s one good thing.”
