I once thought that family was akin to a marriage vow through thick and thin.

A family showed up.

But all I’d ever known was a divide.

There was no denying the feeling of being unwanted heavily shaped my adolescence. My parents, my mom primarily, since my dad worked so much, had only ever wanted one child, something my mother ensured I never forgot. I was a burden in her eyes. It was all I’d ever known until, somewhere along the line, I awakened and realized my worth.

There was more strength and power in letting them lose me versus begging to be seen.

To be loved.

I chose to rise above my parent’s rejection and live for myself.

I chose myself.

I chose my happiness above it all, and now that I’d found someone who loved me for me, despite my faults, it was overwhelming but in the best way possible.

“I’m glad you feel that way because when I was in that storage facility, alone with my thoughts . . . all I could think of was you. I’ve made mistakes in this thing called life, but the biggest regret that weighed heavily over me was that I’d held a part of myself back from you, and I promised myself”—I reveled in the level of empowerment free-flowing through me with abundance—“that if you’d have me, I’d give you my heart. Wholly and completely. It’s yours because I love you too, Boden. I love you with absolutely every fiber of my being. You’re the only man for me. The only one I want.”

“You have no idea what it does to me, hearing those words. Your truth.” He smiled, throwing another ember on the fire already burning with an unparallel intensity. “I need you.”

He flexed his hips as his cock rubbed deliciously against my bundle of nerves, swollen with an ache only he could soothe.

“You have me.” God, did he ever have me!

He pushed inside me with his piercing whiskey gaze locked firmly on mine, filling me until I was deliciously full with all he had to give. My nails dug into his shoulder blades as I held on to him.

Boden controlled my body perfectly, and I’d never felt more cherished and wanted than when he lavished his attentiveness on me.

Sex before him, I realized, had been an empty vessel, an act to appease an urge, a motion that had been unfulfilling, but with Boden, it was pure ecstasy—connecting in a way that wasn’t only physical but bonded us. It heightened the sensations and was euphoric.

Boden palmed my breast before clamping his teeth on my sensitive bud and lowered his hand to circle my swollen clit. The exquisite motion pushed me over the edge as my body arched off the wall, and my inner core convulsed around him. His hold on me tightened as I rode the waves until I floated back down to earth.

I opened my eyes in time to see his jaw tic with a flash of pride just before he reached outside the shower stall for a towel. Boden dried us both off before he carried me to his bed and pushed back inside me.

With his forearm beside my head and his other hand sliding around the back of my neck, he declared his love for me again. “I love you, Lakelyn. With everything that I have, I love you.”

“I love you too. Don’t ever let me go,” I cried out, matching the deliberately slow rhythm he’d set with his hips.

“Never, you’re mine.”

“Forever.”

“Forever.”

Chapter34

Boden

After drying off from my shower, I slung a towel around my hips and stepped out of the bathroom. Lakelyn was still sleeping peacefully, tucked under the duvet. It hadn’t been my intention to keep her up most of the night, delivering multiple orgasms after both of us were running on so little sleep, but it was the only thing that calmed her once the lights were out.

She tried to mask her struggle, but resistance and fear still coursed vividly through her body, preventing her from settling. It turned out orgasms were the balm to redirect her thoughts, the remedy she needed to relax and finally surrender to sleep. The stress she carried in her worry lines from the kidnapping had finally begun to fade and, as a result, were getting less pronounced the longer she slept.

I yearned to reach out and touch her, make sure she was real, but I held myself back, not wanting to disturb the slumber she so rightfully deserved. Instead, I stood, taking in the rawness of her beauty while thanking my guardian angels above for looking out for the woman I loved.

My heart squeezed with tightness, a painful reminder, and a realization that I would have given almost anything for them to have met. While heartbreak is survivable, it doesn’t diminish the size of the void left behind or annul the reminder of what could have been.

Sadness threatened to seep in as I recalled my mother’s warm, welcoming smile. Her heart was so pure and bountiful, and my dad, he was a wise man with an uncompromising stance, but beneath the surface was a giant teddy bear with a soft spot. Their character traits undeniably shaped the man I’d become—a born protector of those I held closest.
