“You’re not going to let this go, are you?” I snickered as I reached for the Smarties box on the counter beside the open bed space where we sat on opposite ends. “Andweare sharing them.”
“Yes, we are.” He held his hand out in front of me.
“I meant to ask how you even got them in the first place?” I tipped the box dumping some in his palm.
“My aunt lives in Canada and sends Brooke and me care packages on our birthdays.”
“Aw, that’s seriously so sweet.”
“And now I’m going to have to let her know that part of her gift was stolen.”
“Stop it, you’re starting to make me feel bad.” I grabbed a pillow and smacked him with it.
“Oof.” He used his arm as a shield. “You’re too easy to mess with.” He volleyed back.
“Never have I ever given out a fake phone number,”I declared, although there were times I definitely wished I had.
Neither of us lowered a finger.
“Never have I ever slid into someone’s DMs.”
He watched me lower a finger while he still held up three. “I find that surprising, to be honest.”
“It’s not what you think, though, I promise.” I waved my hand. “There’s this couple I used to follow from a reality show. I loved their energy and vibe together. Anyway, she has a line of wines she’s created, and I’m a huge fan.”
“Used to follow,” he queried.
“You caught that, did you?”
He nodded.
“I didn’t actually unfollow them, I’m just taking a hiatus from social media.” I shrugged. “So, for real, you’ve never DM’d anyone, or do all the ladies slide into yours?”
“Not really a social media kind of guy.”
“Truthfully speaking, I already suspected that. In fact, it’s one of the things I like about you.”
“I hope there are others.”
His irresistible smile will be the death of me, I swear.
“You check lots of boxes.” I felt my cheeks reddening. “Never have I ever cheated.”
“Never,” he affirmed without batting an eye as his darkened gaze held mine intently.
“Never,” I echoed.
“Never have I ever been on a blind date.” I lowered a finger, and he eyed me curiously.
“Do tell.”
“There’s not really much to tell. On a visit to see my sister during reading week, she took the opportunity to set me up on a date. I humored her but the joke was on me as I ended up sitting alone in a coffee bar for almost an hour. Just as I was leaving, the guy showed up. He was drunk off his ass with another girl on his arm, and he had the nerve to proposition me for a threesome.”
“Seriously?”
“Trust me, I wish I were lying.”
“I can only imagine how uncomfortable that was, but I’m glad it didn’t work out because anyone who would ever act like that isn’t deserving of a single second of your attention.”
