“Different kind of royalty,” Sam offered.
Three faces turned to him with identical expressions of confusion.
Dragons didn’t date, Sam thought, watching Mabon carefully write “Kardashian (one of them)” on the answer sheet. They bonded for centuries with mates whose souls recognized each other across time and distance. They hoarded precious items, built vaults, and protected what was theirs with fire and fury.
But maybe, with the right human, they could learn new things. How tonavigate coffee dates and trivia nights and understand that grand gestures sometimes meant less than showing up. The differences between courting rather than claiming, asking instead of assuming.
And perhaps, most importantly, dragons could learn to love, not because fate demanded it, but because someone chose them.
Sam reached under the table and laced his fingers through Rux’s, pressed his shoulder more firmly against Mabon’s, met Urien’s eyes across the booth, and smiled. His mates smiled back.
Pat called for final answers. The pub erupted in competitive chaos, and Sam sat surrounded by three long-lived dragons who were definitely going to lose trivia night, touching the pendant at his throat, thinking,Mine.
To Be Continued
There’s a part of me that feels I should apologize, but if you’ve madeit all the way here, then no, I will just be thanking you instead. Was this story cute, silly, and a little OTT? Yes, and it was written that way deliberately. Honestly, with the shit show the world is right now, I needed some cute and silly in my life.
This story was always intended to be written in three parts. Because I like to write showing all my MCs POVs - and in this book there were four - that did slow the story down a bit, so I felt three parts would work best to get the whole story out there. I am already working on the next one, although it won’t release until early next year.
In the meantime, there is still so much to come in other series this year. Next month, I believe it’s Sobek’s turn in the spotlight in my Gods Made Me Do It series. I also have the next Monsters Need Mates, too, another Hellhound Collar series book, and the last Assassin’s Alley book of the series, all coming out before the end of the year. In case you hadn’t guessed, staying busy ishow I stop myself from getting depressed about the world around me.
If you did enjoy this story, then please consider leaving me a review at your place of purchase. Reviews are a genuinely free way of helping your favorite authors during difficult times. I also hope that wherever you are, that you are keeping safe and looking after yourself. You are worth all the good things.
Hug the ones you love,
Hugs
