This time, we barely say a word.

Our bodies remain tightly entangled, with her head resting directly over my heart.

Gently, I slide my fingers through her hair and tuck a few strands behind her ear.

Our pulses are still racing, but they gradually slow down to match the serene rhythm of the room. Beneath the fading adrenaline, peace washes over us both. Being with her like this, wrapped in each other’s arms, feels like a sanctuary.

I wrap my arms tightly around her waist to anchor her against my chest. Her fingers trail lazily across my ribs, tracing the fading scars of my past, completely at home in my embrace.

I kiss the crown of her head, inhaling the sweet, familiar scent of her hair, and tighten my grip just a fraction more.

“You’re the beautiful one,” I whisper into her hair, then kiss her forehead. “I will protect you. No harm will ever come to you under my watch. I will burn the world to ash before I let a shadow cross your path.”

Elena sighs softly against my chest, a beautiful, contented sound that tells me she believes every word. “My knight in shining armor. You’re very dramatic.”

“That’syour response?”

She shrugs lazily, and a big yawn follows after. “I mean, yeah? Do you think I’m going to let you protect me, like some damsel in distress? Hell no, Leo. No way. You’re going to teach me how to fight.”

“Interesting turn of events. My wife in a training session with my men. Tell me when?”

Her eyelids start to droop, and she mumbles, “Tomorrow.”

“Why not today?”

“I’m tired, Leo. And you know why.”

I smile, fighting the grin that climbs over my face at how peaceful she looks. “Your boss said five minutes, and it’s been at least ten. You have work to do.”

She yawns again. “Tell my boss I can’t make it.”

“You’re in his arms.”

“Okay…” Her voice grows softer, getting more distant by the second. “Tell him I love him, then. Tell him I love him very much. It’s a bribe to get my way. It’ll work.”

Cheat.

But it definitely works.

She falls asleep in my arms, and I watch her chest rise and fall softly against mine. Her contentment is the reassurance that I’ve found my peace. That’s all I need. I know that whatever wars rage outside, our love will remain strong, and our story is finally complete.
