My breathing turned heavy.

“She doesn’t know what she’s doing,” I whispered.

She didn’t.

Sadie was confused.

Scared.

Beast had made her think she needed him.

That she was safe with him.

But I knew Sadie.

I knew what she needed.

She needed someone who understood her.

Someone who had loved her before all of this.

Someone who knew the girl she used to be.

I got down from the roof.

I paced the cabin.

Back and forth.

The floorboards creaked beneath my boots.

Darren had called three times.

I ignored every one of those calls.

He didn’t understand.

Nobody understood.

They all thought I was the problem.

They all thought I had lost.

But they were wrong.

Sadie had just forgotten.

That was all.

She had forgotten who she belonged with.
