“I want to protect you. However, I have changed things, and you started to glitch after. I believe that’s because you will make your own decisions that I can’t alter.

“Once you make those decisions, then that will place you on a side. I have thought about not being your friend to protect you from the side I’ve tried to keep you from. That’s why I don’t know if we will always be friends,” I say.

“Well, I’m picking a side for myself. You’re the coolest person I know. I will always choose the side that makes us friends,” Chance says.

“Me too. You can’t protect us from something we want. You’re our best friend. It has been decided,” Cade says.

I jerk my head back as both of their faces become clear in my future. I want to groan and tell them no. They don’t understand, but it’s clear that both of their minds are made up. I can’t change the path they will take, no matter how hard I want to try.

“Guys, it’s our turn,” Elijah calls.

I look to my brother and smile. He will be taller than me. I know my first mom said not to baby him, but he’s my little brother. I’m going to find that hard not to do.

Patrick whimpers in my arms. He will be strong-willed and won’t give me a chance to baby him. He will look out for me as much as I look out for him now.

I stand and get ready to move toward the house. If I’m going to play the games, I need to hand him back over. The girls all look up at me with sad eyes.

Patrick starts to cry as if he’s also unhappy. I sigh and think about forfeiting my turn. Uncle Brooklyn is playing a game with Cara and Liadan.

They are having fun. I could sit here and hold Patrick for a little longer. He doesn’t normally cry like this with me. That’s one of the reasons I know he’s unhappy. His aura has also changed.

“Why do you have that baby? Isn’t this your birthday party? Give him to me so you can go have some fun,” Miss Onyx says.

I call her Miss Onyx. Some of the others call her Helen. I like her, so does Patrick.

She goes to take Patrick, and her fingers brush my arm. It’s like she turns the lights on. The movies have been playing today, but not as loud as this one.

First, I watch us together in a training room. I have my knives, but she’s showing me how to use them with axes and my fists. Then we’re at a gun range and she’s teaching me to use a plethora of different firearms.

However, anxiety fills me as the scene changes. I watch her as she’s gunned down. Quickly, I turn the channel in my mind’s eye.

I’m met with the same outcome. Then I change it again and again, each time finding her meeting the same end.

I begin to hum as I hate the scenes before me. This can’t be right. The first visions show us together when I’m older.

I’ve also seen her in Patrick’s life. He needs her. I try to widen the picture to see more.

I need to see what the source of the problem is and how I can change the outcome. I see DJ and Uncle Brooklyn; there’s a wedding, then I widen the picture more.

It’s her. The woman who has been a problem before. I saw her walk away after Dad and Mom burned everything down.

She’s not supposed to return. I felt her defeat. She was full of despair.

Her decision was to walk away. However, something has changed. She’s coming back.

I zone in for details and hone in my focus. I begin to shake my hands before me as I can’t find what I’m looking for. I need her reasons, I need a different outcome, I need to know when in time this is.

I drop to the ground and bring my knees to my chest. The pictures are moving too fast. I’ve lost control of them.

Everything is jumbled. I have to see, I need to know. My best friend can’t lose his grandmother. I have to stop this.

Suddenly, I’m engulfed in a strong embrace. Everything slows down and the pictures freeze. I stare into the dead eyes of Onyx in the vision, then I see Patrick’s grandfather lying next to her, also with lifeless eyes.

“No, no, no, no,” I say.

“You are fine. I am here. Tell Misha what to do. What do you need, my friend?”

“She’s coming back. The lady with the blue eyes is coming back. She has to be stopped.”
