I’m not a selfish lover.
Bird blushes. “Ehm, you don’t need to.”
“I want to.”
Bird’s blush deepens. “I already came in my pants.”
I push myself onto my elbow, as he drops his gaze.
I smirk, proud. “You came in your pants just from pleasuring me…?” I grab Bird’s chin, forcing him to meet my gaze. “You are fucking perfect.”
Bird’s eyes widen in surprise. “Only for you.”
Only for you.
Does he know how true it is for me as well?
I have never experienced these growing feelings for anyone. I didn’t know that I was capable of it.
“How about you clean up and change into pajamas?” I pet Bird’s soft hair. “Then we finish up our picnic before bed?”
He nods.
Later, when Bird and I are lying together in bed, changed into matching black pajamas after our picnic, Bird curls his arms around my shoulders. My arms are already looped around his waist.
The light of the crescent moon shines through the open window behind Bird in the starry sky.
I made sure that the drapes remained open.
How would my prey, the Hunter pack, be able to watch us throughout the night otherwise?
Are the masked Alpha and his sweet Beta taking turns sleeping? Or are both staying up together?
Bird’s nose is touching mine. His warm breath gusts against my mouth.
I never thought that I would trust anyone to be this close to me at night.
Of course, I still have a knife tucked underneath my pillow.
“I’ve spent my life sleeping alone,” I quietly confess. Bird’s drowsy gaze focuses on mine. “I’d toss and turn down in the basement, barely able to catch a couple of hours uneasy sleep. On missions in hotels like this, I would be hyper alert and awake. Lying in your arms, however, I can finally sleep.”
A sunbeam of happiness radiates through the bond from Bird.
“I love you too, Ro,” he whispers.
Then he closes his eyes and snuggles closer to me. His breathing steadies like he’s sleeping.
I startle, staring down at him.
I love you too…?
What am I meant to say?
My heart beats fast. My mouth is dry.
Is he truly asleep or only pretending?
Am I meant to say it back?
