“Now you know…” he reminded her of the new rules he’d put in place.

Nina sighed dramatically. “I’ve been carrying my own luggage-”

He cut her off, “Girl, please. You’ve had maids and shit your whole life,” he tittered.

“To confirm you don’t need my help?” He lifted both bags with one hand without mumbling a word.

Nina rolled her eyes. “Fine… which way is the room?” She wasn’t going back and forth with him about it.

The first thing that she noticed and was happy about was that their room was more of a suite and it overlooked the water. The view was gorgeous.

Across one wall floor-to-ceiling windows stretched all the way across, allowing what was left of the sun to shine through. The doors to the balcony were cracked, transporting laughter and old-school jams to fill the room.

Nina walked right onto the terrace. “Wow.”

“I gave the bride and groom my spot for the weekend.”

“So this is your house?” Nina wanted to be sure.

“The house belongs to the family, but my name is on the deed, and I pay the property taxes.”

“Is your room in here or somewhere else?”

“It’s up the hill and ducked off in the back. Like a smaller version of this,” he explained, looking at her up and down.

Nina didn’t respond. Instead, she rested her hands against the railing. All the times she was stressed and he offered to whisk her away to this place or that one… hell, they could’ve just come to The Bluff.

She stepped outside, resting both hands against the railing. There was literally water in every direction, followed by a long dock that went into the bay.

“You hungry?”

She shook her head. “Not yet.”

“What’s going on? You need a nap?” She was his priority. When his baby was good, he was even better.

“I think I'm just... taking it all in.”

He understood that. “Let’s unpack and get settled in,” he decided.

Once dresses and suits were removed from garment bags and hung in the closet. Nina said, “I’m going to lay down for a few minutes and let my phone charge.”

Jio finally went to relieve himself in the bathroom. When he came back to the room, his sweet baby was replaced with a growling gorilla. Nina was snoring so damn loud it was ridiculous. She must’ve been more tired than she knew… or maybe his baby stole what little energy she’d had left over from a long week of working and traveling.

He tucked her in and kissed her on the forehead before closing the door and going to get high with his family.

Lips that only could’ve belonged to one person suckled on her neck, resulting in everything in her body opening up, not just her eyes. Nina moaned in the darkness.

“What time is it?”

“Late, baby,” he whispered before going right back to kissing on her sweet skin. She smelled the beer and tobacco on his breath.

“You didn’t wake me up,” she whined.

“Cus you needed the rest.”

His hands moved fast to take her clothes off. “I missed you,” he told her.
