“I expect Michael to visit often,” she said, smiling up at Connor, “and especially in seven months.”

Michael turned to her, confused. “Seven months?”

“We learned yesterday,” she continued, cheeks flushed, “that we are with child. So ye are about to be an uncle, Michael.”

Michael’s eyes widened in astonishment, and then all three erupted into laughter, the tension of the day melting away.

Connor pulled Eva into his arms, resting his cheek against hers.

“Aye,” he murmured, smiling down at her, “this will be a grand life indeed.”

Michael laughed, ruffling his hair and looking from Connor to Eva, a grin spreading across his face.

“Aye,” he said, “and soon, a new generation to bring our clans together.”

Connor knew then.

United, hearts full, and the bond of family, love, and alliance would endure for years to come.
