“Always wooing me. How has the day of the future governor been?”
“Uneventful, and I haven’t won yet,” I mentioned.
“Gotta claim it. I normally don’t keep up, but I have been since I know someone personally. I think you got it in the bag,” she retorted. I smiled at her keeping up, I didn’t expect her to, but
it made me want to pop my collar. A woman taking pride in what you were apart from us was the ultimate dream for me. Especially with my understanding of her lack of support for her father.
“I thought you hated politics?”
“I never said I hated politics. I hate what politics has made my father do to me. There’s a difference. It would be the same if you started to push your agenda on me.”
“Is that your warning?” I asked just for clarification. She had no clue that I was already working my angle and my agenda with my smile, charm, and diligence. Originally I thought I would have more trouble getting in with her but the more I came around the less her touches felt friendly.
Before she could answer I sealed the deal with a kiss to her lips. It was time to activate full throttle. My plan couldn’t take any hesitation.
“What did you ask me again?” she giggled hiding her face. I grabbed her hand and massaged it. Teaghan was such a fresh face for me and people would love her. I had no doubt that when she became the first lady she would do amazing things.
“Teaghan, can we both be honest and admit there’s something brewing and traveling between us? I like being friends and hanging out, but I can’t help but think you are the last piece to my puzzle. Be my girlfriend,” I asked with her hand still in mine. Missy was in the window watching. There was no way I was going to let her come in between what I was building with Teaghan. Things, for now, did seem forced on my end but she would never know the difference. I was starting to feel more than I bargained for. Luckily I was ready, and that’s all she wanted. Someone that was ready to concede to the idea of being everything she needed. Over time, I could modify what she thought she wanted; it would be a win for everyone.
“Can I think about it? I mean because sure I like you and I really enjoy being around you but there are so many factors that haven’t been discussed.”
“Is it him?” I asked. “Him who?”
“The last guy? I know I shouldn’t bring it up. But I know you’ve struggled in relationships and trust me I know how it feels. But you don’t have to worry about that with me. I don’t need anything from you, just your time.”
“I would prefer to not speak about the last guy or the guy before that, I just simply need to be sure I am ready for everything you come with. I don’t want to be my mother,” she replied. That statement caught me off guard. I thought her mother was a wonderful person. Fulfilling her duties as the governor’s wife wasn’t easy. I smirked because it was clear she didn’t understand all that it took. Letting her hand go, I decided to leave it how it was for now. Time was important, but I couldn’t afford a scandal or to expose our budding relationship if she wasn’t on board for the long run.
“I understand. Can we at least do dinner tonight?”
“Dinner is fine, but I must get back to work. Talk soon?”
“Yea, we can talk soon. Enjoy the rest of your day.” Preparing toleave, I tapped her nose and kissed her cheek. She closed her eyes. It was things like this that I couldn’t wrap my head around. She was clearly feeling me, but something was holding her back. She loved my touch but wouldn’t succumb to me completely.
“Teaghan LeJune?” someone said from behind me.
“Yes,” she answered with a bewildered look on her face.
“You’ve been served.”
“Excuse me, what’s this about?” I asked as she hurriedly ripped open the notice. He didn’t answer only left the same way he came. Missy came from the back also concerned. Missy was in my way and needed to take a backseat. I had shit under control. Soon I wanted to be the first person she called in the midst of a crisis.
“I’m being subpoenaed to show up in court next week for the situation with Houston,” she replied. Missy gasped and I didn’t understand what was happening. I didn’t catch the name but the look on Teaghan’s face told its own story. She was worried. Kissing her cheek again I decided to leave and see if I could get on top of this before we had a situation.
Teaghan
Today was the day I was asked to show up in court. I was uneasy. For one, I didn’t understand why I was needed. I gave my statement over and over and had nothing more to do with it. Secondly, I was nervous about seeing Houston for the first time since we split. I attempted to call him after I got the notice, but it was clear my number was blocked. It all felt extreme to me. Houston was acting like I planned to hurt Malone or as if we shared nothing.
Even with him acting like this, I still missed him. I cared for Bobby, but it all felt staged. Every time he called or came around he tried so hard. It was like he had an inside scoop into what I really wanted but somehow was still missing the mark. Everything was simple with Houston, and I loved it that way. A pony-tail, sweats, and snacks while we watched an old movie. Bobby was the exact opposite. It was clear I missed Houston.
“You ready babe?” Bobby asked as I spritz my perfume on. I couldn’t understand why he insisted on accompanying me to this court hearing. I explained that it wasn’t something he needed to concern himself with, but he explained something about being a man. It went in one ear and out the other.
My mood was in a pretzel, it felt like he was slowly attempting tostrip me of independence. I was fine doing things on my own and handling them without the occasional butting in. Bobby was doing a lot of it and it was giving me a headache. My mom was convinced it was just me not being used to a man taking control and gathering the reins. It was true I wasn’t used to it and I didn’t want to get used to relying on a man. I knew men would come with the occasional disappointment.
“Yea, I think so. I still don’t understand why you want to come. I’ll probably be in and out,” I mentioned hoping he would have something of his own to do. Over dinner that night I explained the full story of me and Houston. I couldn’t help but feel like he was threatened. He didn’t need to be, hell Houston wasn’t thinking about me.
“I’m going Teaghan and you won’t be able to stop me. Let me be by your side,” he said rubbing my shoulders and grabbing my hand. I grabbed my shades and purse from the counter, and we headed out. Today was something I wasn’t looking forward to. I had no idea what was to come of this, but I hoped it was something helpful. If I could help clear Houston, it would make it worth it. But again, I had no clue what I was walking into.
My black suit and black shades were potentially way too much. I looked like John Gotti’s wife or a widow seeking justice for my deceased husband. I giggled at the thought because I had a way of creating my own funny damn situation and outcomes in my head when there was nothing funny.
