But I’m nowhere ready for it.

I don’t think I’ll ever be prepared for how intense it is to have my clit sucked by Alaric.

“I’m going to come.” I shudder, my teeth sinking into my bottom lip to silence a scream. “Too fast. It’s too fast, and I can’t stop it.”

He pulls back, his lips glistening. “Let go.”

His order is the only reprieve I get before he returns to ravishing me.

Kissing me.

Sucking again. And again.

Fuck.

I bite my lip, hard, as my climax rattles my bones. My soul. My heart.

“Good girl.” His lips press to my inner thigh when I’m done.

“Thank you.” I watch him put my leg back and pull my panties back on.

Usually, when a panic attack fades, my muscles ache, and I feel empty. This is different, with Alaric’s heat and devotion filling every part of me.

“Nothing to thank me for.” He rises to his full, glorious height.

Gently, like he’s tending to a wounded animal, he takes both my hands in his.

The brush of his mouth on my knuckles sends goosebumps racing across my skin.

“Lilith. I’ll never be angry with you. Ever.” He cups my cheek while holding my hands to his chest. His heart beats in there, slow, powerful. Determined. “And just so we’re clear, from this point on, the word disappointment doesn’t apply to you.”

“Okay.” My mouth itches the way it does when I feel too much, when I don’t know whether to smile or cry. “Okay.”

“One more thing. You asked me to come to you if I ever needed anyone.” Lifting one of my hands, he kisses each knuckle again, sending little jolts of electricity through me. “I’m begging you to do the same. Let me be that person for you.”

“Okay.”

His lips quirk. His eyes are so kind.

“You’re mine.” He strokes my cheek, his thumb smooth, the motion steadying me. “And I’m yours. Whatever happens, we have each other.”

“Just like that?”

“Yes. Just like that.”

It sounds so simple coming from him.

Except it isn’t. If it really were, I should’ve been able to tell him I’ve been stalking him since before I moved back to New York. That I had a PI get me information on him. That I bought an apartment close to his on purpose.

It should’ve been easy for him to be completely honest too.

Soon, though, we’ll have that.

Things will be wonderfully simple then.

“Lil.” I hear Hope from the hallway. “I’m ordering pizza. Come out when you guys are ready.”

“Be right there,” I call out, my neck on fire.
