“And you’re right. No man has ever made me come that hard.”

“Look at me when you say that.”

Her eyes pop open, but the fear I see in them nearly unravels me. “It’s true.”

I want to argue, to make her say exactly what I want to hear, but I can sense that this conversation is getting to be way too fucking vulnerable for her, so I relent. “Thank you. Now, let’s feed you.”

After we get out of the tub, get some clothes on, and I clean up the water on the bathroom floor with several towels, I find Dilynne in her kitchen pulling the onion rings I brought for her from the air fryer.

“I’m fully convinced that air fryers are man’s greatest invention. Only second to vibrators.” She taps her chin. “Although, I’m fairly certain a woman invented the vibrator because most men can’t handle competing with a toy, so I guess that argument doesn’t work.”

Laughing, I approach her and pull her into my chest. She peers up at me with a smirk on her lips. “Bust your toys out next time, Dilynne, and I’ll show you a man who knows they’re teammates, not competition.”

“Next time, huh?”

I capture her lips with mine. “If you think I’m done fucking you, then you haven’t been paying attention to anything I’ve been saying.”

Her face grows serious. “Words don’t mean anything without actions to back them up, Elliot. I learned that the hard way, and if memory serves me correctly, so have you.”

I study every line in her face before replying. “Trust is a big deal to you, isn’t it?”

“It’s the most important detail in any relationship as far as I’m concerned.”

I dip my mouth down to hers, trying to reassure her with my lips that she can trust me, but I know better than to think one night of honesty is enough to break through this woman’s armor.

Infact, after Tori’s betrayal, my need for trust runs so deep that it’s one thing Dilynne and I actually see eye to eye on.

When we part, she sighs. “Why did you do that, Elliot?”

“Because I fucking wanted to, and for once, I’m not holding myself back from what I want.”

“And what if you change your mind?”

“Do you think that’s what I’m going to do?”

“I don’t know any differently.”

Cupping her face, I reply, “Then I guess it’s time that I change that.”

Chapter 24

Dilynne

Yes, I’m Freaking Out

As soon as the clock strikes noon, I rush past Steven in the garage and hightail it across the street to Blossom Beauty, Laney’s salon.

Glenn is standing at the front reception desk when I push through the front door, making him jump. “Dear lord, Dilynne. Is there a fire?”

“Just the one that has been ignited between my legs, Glenn,” I say as I dart past him and head toward Laney’s office.

“That doesn’t sound good, girl. You should get that checked out!” he calls after me, and then, “So glad I don’t have a vagina.”

Slamming Laney’s office door open, I find her sitting at her desk, shoving a sandwich from The Happy Belly Deli into her mouth. Since she’s used to my dramatic antics, my appearance doesn’t even startle her. “Your sandwich is in the bag,” she mumbles around a mouthful of food, but I’m too on edge to eat.

I shut the door behind me and then lean up against it. “Elliot and I had sex.” She stops chewing just long enough to glance up at me, her mouth still full of her sandwich. “Twice,” I continue as she slowly sets her food down on her desk and picks up her napkin, wiping her mouth while she finishes chewing.

Waiting for her to take a sip of her drink feels like an eternity, but once she does and looks back up at me, she says, “Was it good?”
