The staff member took me to the clinic for my post-heat checkup. I checked in and took a seat in the waiting area. Everything was comfortable and designed to put omegas at ease. It didn’t smell medical. There were plush couches and a cart full of snacks.I played on my phone and sipped some tea.

“Fiona Gallagher?” A nurse in pink scrubs came out.

“That's me.” I grabbed my purse.

Hmmm. Would I take Carlos’ last name? Hale’s? Have everyone take mine? Maybe we’d have a pack last name? I asked that in the group chat.

Me

Should we think of a pack last name? Personally, I think we should all be O’Halloran’s.

I added a gif of chickens.

Dusty

I could get on board with that.

Carlos

Really? You’d give up your parents last name?

Oh. I knew Dusty had been adopted by his moms, but had he kept his parents’ last name?

Me

We could take yours, Dusty.

Hale

I don’t want to stay a Thorne. Name me up.

Saoirse

I agree with Fionaabout Dusty’s.

Dusty

I think I’m ready. Or maybe I’d hyphenate? We can talk more about it.

Hale

We can always invent something.

Saoirse

Or we just have a pack name, and those who want to take someone’s last name, can?

Me

All good things to consider.

I put my phone in my purse. We went into a room, where she asked me the usual question. Things like,Do you feel safe? There were also medical ones about the date of my last heat and such. I stood on a machine, gave her my blood, and did all the basic checkup things.

“All done, Hun. Wait here for the doctor,” the nurse in pink scrubs told me as she left me in a comfortable exam room.

The beta doctor came in, her badge visible. “Everything looks good. Your records say that you’re on suppressants, but you also just had a heat. Do you want to talk about that?”

“We’re pretty sure it was caused by us being dumbasses. We were at a rave, mixed drugs, and got drunk. We really don’t remember a whole lot of it, and we all ended up bonded, but it’s fine. We weren’t strangers. Saoirse and I live together, and Carlos wanted us to move in.” I might as well not sugarcoat it.
