It was a heart-shaped emerald ring with little stones around it and an engraved band.

“It matches your eyes. Do you like it?” I asked.

“I love it. Thank you.”

“May I?” I asked. She nodded and I slipped it on her finger.

“It fits perfectly.” Fiona beamed, admiring it.

“I’m glad. I guessed. Do you like yours, Hale?”

Hale looked at the band. Though wider, it had the same engravings as Fiona’s band, only the emerald was rectangular and in-set.

“If it’s too much ring for you, we can take it back. I liked it ‘cause it matched Fiona’s. I bought one for myself as well,” I admitted.

“I like it. No one’s ever bought me anything this nice,” he admitted.

Wow, that said a whole lot.

I kissed him. “I’m glad you like it. May I?”

“I’d love that.”

Meeting his eyes, I slid it on his finger.

“It fits. That’s crazy.” Hale paused. “Oh shit. I have gifts for you, too. I had them sent to my sister’s, though I don’t actually remember ordering them. I totally forgot to give them to you. I’m so silly.” He darted out of her bedroom.

“I like all the little lights,” I said. “I’m trying to decide if I want glow-in-the-dark star stickers for my ceiling or if maybe I should splurge and get a fiber optic one.”

“Those are both very good options. You could also get a star projector.”

Hale came running back in with three blue boxes from a high-end, popular jewelry store.

“I got us matching gifts, too.” He beamed with pride.

“Oooh, I love matching.” Fiona squealed with a happy little shimmy of her shoulders.

“Um, I must’ve been high when I bought them because I don’t remember it. But both Mercy and Verity approve.” He handed us each box.

Fiona undid the ribbon and opened it. “Stephanie’s is always a good choice. Oh, Hale, I love it,” she breathed as she withdrew a dainty little link bracelet with heart on it.

“I’m glad you like it, Puddin’.” He gave her a kiss.

Opening mine, I saw that it was a more masculine version of the bracelet, but without the heart. “It matches. Thank you so much.”

This was a big purchase for him.

“Oh, good, I’m glad you like it. I don’t know how much jewelry you wear, especially since you’re an athlete,” he admitted.

“I don’t usually wear any jewelry when I play, but I do wear it sometimes,” I replied.

“I haven’t figured out what I wanted to get you yet. I wasn’t sure if I should get something now or if I should wait until we have our party,” Fiona admitted as she held out the bracelet to Hale and he put it around her wrist.

“You are the present.” He gave her a big grin and held out his hand to me.

I gave him my bracelet, and he put it on me.

“He’s right. Besides, you’ve done so much for us. I really appreciate the speed and the thoroughness. It would take me months to get done what you have in a few days,” I admitted.
