“I’m thinking about the future,” I say.

“That sounds serious.” She traces invisible lines on my chest. “What about it?”

“I’m thinking it looks different than it used to.”

Her finger stills.

“I never allowed myself to think about it,” she says softly.

I tangle my fingers in hers. “Baby.”

“Yeah?”

“How about a future with me?”

She lifts her head with a suggestive eyebrow. “In a perfect world, where I don’t kill you for annoying me?”

I can’t help but smile. “But I like how feral you become when I annoy you. I’m saying I want forever.” Her breath hitches, and I can sense the fight or flight in her that always comes to the surface, but her gaze softens. “Become my little raven?”

“You want matching tattoos?” She half laughs, but when she sees my serious expression, I can tell she’s considering it. I know it’ll shift the dynamics of her work, but I don’t plan on handing her over to anyone else. Now or ever.

Gnawing her lip, she rises on her elbows and leans in to kiss me. It’s slow and deep, and I know without a doubt that I want her to kiss me like this every day for the rest of our lives.

When she pulls back, her eyes are bright.

“You have my forever,” she whispers. “Until I put you across the slab myself.”

I grin, wondering about all the creative ways I can push her over the edge to ignite her little psycho. “Yeah, baby. I like the sound of that.”
