She lifted her chin, green eyes locked on mine as I ripped open the tunnel, meaning to extract exactly how she manipulated me. Instead, she shoved images of us tangled and moaning to the forefront of her mind- I jerked away from her gaze.

With a bitter laugh, “Like taking drugs would’ve been any different?”

“At least it would've been my fucking choice,” I snarled.

Her upper lip curled. “Itwasyour choice, you came home with me.”

“Because you made me!”

“I’m an empath you asshat, that doesn’t mean I can control your mind.”

I froze, each heaving breath hiking up my fury as her words soaked through the fuzz of my hangover. How did I miss it? It made too much sense- they were twins for fuck's sake, created like me. But I hadn’t considered her gift would be different from his. Her power was almost as dangerous as mine.

“Jack should’ve told me.”

She rose on her knees and reached for me.

“We’re not so different, you and I,” she murmured, her voice husky as she wet her lower lip. “You’re in here.” Her fingers brushed over my forehead. “I’m in here.” Her palm flattened over my heart, a pulse of lust flaring in my blood-

Fighting the pull of emotion, I wrenched her hand from me.

“Fuck.Off.”

She smirked, though no hint of amusement filled her jaded glare. “It’s ok for you to manipulate minds, but God forbid I give you some pleasure? You’re a festering pit of misery, my bad for assuming you could use a distraction.” My jaw popped with the force of it snapping shut. She shrugged, falling back to the bed. “I tried to tell you, but you wouldn’t answer your phone, so go ahead, run back to Jack, yell at him for not telling you about me. All he’s going to hear is that you fucked his sister.”

Fury wasn’t a strong enough word. I was vibrating with rage. I was a fucking fool- she played me.

“You connivingbitch.”

She laughed darkly. “And you’re a miserable ass. Match made in hell.”

“We’re nothing,” I growled. She shrugged again, the sheet falling from her chest to reveal her round tits.

“We’ll see about that,” she purred.

Done with her bullshit, I stormed out, rushing down the hall and checking my phone to find it dead. As I rounded the corner to the elevators, I slammed to a halt. Silvery hair swept in a bun and wearing tiny black shorts that accentuated long, toned legs, Courtney looked heaven sent. I did a double take.

“You look like hell,” she blurted.

Either from dehydration or a psychotic break, I snapped. I laughed- likereallylaughed. Her brows knit together in confusion and, fuck me, I shouldn’t have noticed how cute it was. That wasn't allowed.

I sighed, shaking my head. “Yea, well I feel like it too.”

The elevator opened, both of us pausing awkwardly before darting in at the same time. Her shoulder bumped mine- static at the contact. She bit her lip, stabbing the first floor button while keeping her eyes averted.

“Where’s your boyfriend?” I asked, instantly regretting it.

“Um, studying.” She shrugged and hugged herself as she squeezed into the corner like being near me repulsed her.Something we have in common, I repulse me too.

“Let me guess, you’re going to meet him?” I asked, all of my pretense on the floor. She tilted her head, studying me.

“Why do you care?”

Good fucking question.

“I don't, I'm making conversation.”

She squinted at me. “I’m getting lunch, it’s almost noon.”
