“No, it doesn’t.”
He helped her into the bath, because he was more than aware of the blood that covered her pussy and also smeared over his cock. Each time he saw it, it just made him want to possess Harper a little more.
He removed his clothes, and rather than leave Harper alone, he saw she was struggling with what just happened. Enzo didn’t even know how it happened. One moment he was in his kids’ old bedroom, and the next, she was walking away, and he couldn’t let her go. The kiss came out of nowhere, but it wasn’t like he hadn’t been thinking about kissing her and fucking her for some time.
He’d never met anyone like Harper. She was kind, and good, and loyal—everything a wife should be—yet she was his cleaner, and twenty fucking years younger than him. He was a dirty old man and shouldn’t be touching her, yet he felt this connection in a way he’d never felt.
His father had told him he would feel stuff like this, eventually. They had assumed he would feel that way about Isabella. Instead, all he ever felt was resentment. He kept her secret, and he still kept her secret.
His wife was supposed to be a virgin, untouched, untainted. Enzo had never given a fuck about that kind of tradition, however, when it came to Isabella, it would come to piss him off.
“How come you were a virgin?” he asked, stepping into the bath and moving behind her. He pulled her back against him and wrapped his arms around her, putting his chin on her shoulder.
“Because I’ve never had sex with a guy or a girl,” she said.
“How?”
There was a chuckle. “You know how, by not having sex.”
“But you’re young and full of hormones.”
“Not all of us want to jump into bed with the first guy we see. Besides the fact I was never attracted to any of the guys in school, most of the people I knew were friends with my dad, and I’m not exactly a big fan of his.”
“Your dad is a grade A asshole.”
“Agreed. He always ... he hated me going to school. The only reason he let me was because he didn’t have a choice. He even attempted to have me homeschooled, but there was too much money, then he had to prove I was getting the right education. So, I went to my local school, and then high school. The same ones my brothers went to.”
“What are your thoughts on your brothers?”
“They’re carbon copies of my dad. They don’t believe a woman should need to worry about getting an education. It is beneath them.” She shrugged. “You know, it’s funny, because whenever my mom would get an answer wrong, my dad would go crazy, calling her dumb and stupid, and stuff like that. He’d also hit her, and she didn’t do well in school. She failed so many tests.”
“And what did your mom think of your dad?”
“She agreed with him,” Harper said. “Even when he would ridicule her. She said that in the past men took care of women, and that was needed now.” She sighed. “She didn’t want me spending too much time on my education. Of course, she also didn’t want to give me too much time either, because that meant it took time away from her devotion to my dad. I guess to some people, they had a great relationship. My mom loved my father, and he ... put up with her. I don’t know if he loved her, or she was the best match for him.”
“Do you love your family?” Enzo asked.
He saw her hand clench into a fist at her side. He held her tightly, not wanting to let her go.
“No, I don’t. Does that make me a bad person?” she asked.
“I killed my wife after she murdered our family, and I never loved her. I never had any feelings, so you’re asking the wrong guy.”
“I hate him and I hate all of them,” Harper said.
“He’s also a thief,” Enzo said.
“It doesn’t surprise me about my dad.”
“I paid you over eighty thousand dollars, and it has all gone missing from your bank account.”
Harper jerked within his arms. “Eighty thousand dollars? To be a cleaner?”
“You’re worth it,” Enzo said.
“And my dad has taken it all.” She sighed. “It figures, and yet, I got two hundred dollars last Christmas and was told to make it last. I still have one hundred and eighty of it left.”
He pressed a kiss to her shoulder. “You don’t have to worry about the money. You’re going to get every cent back, with interest.”
