Enzo lifted his coffee mug and took a sip. It was the best coffee in the fucking state. It was so damn good.

He watched from his position as Bradley got back in his car, and he saw the man slam his hand against the steering wheel. If Bradley thought he could manipulate and control Harper, he just got a rude awakening. Harper was now under his control, and no one was getting to her.

Finishing his drink, he paid for the coffee, as well as a large tip, and left.

He climbed into his car, and as he was making his way back to his home, his cell phone rang, and he saw it was Marcus Villa, the head of the mafia.

“Hello,” he said.

“There is a rumor that you’ve decided to attack the Irish Mafia. Is this true, Enzo?”

Enzo gave him the details of what happened at the café and didn’t leave out a single moment.

“And what is the next course of action?”

“I’ll give them two more days to clear out the restaurant. Once it’s up for sale, we’ll deal with the asking price and buy it,” Enzo said.

Marcus laughed. “And what is this I hear about you taking a woman on a date to that very café?”

Marcus had spies and eyes everywhere. No one could go anywhere or do anything without Marcus knowing about it.

“She’s my cleaner,” Enzo said.

“I know who she is, Enzo. Be careful what you do there. I have plans for you, and I intend to see them through.”

The call ended, and Enzo pocketed his cell phone. There were not going to be any plans. He’d already thwarted multiple attempts to marry him off to someone else, and he wasn’t interested in being with anyone.

He drove all the way home, but it didn’t help. Nothing was going to help him.

Arriving back at his home, he closed the gate, secured it, and made his way inside, but he didn’t go straight to his office or go looking for Harper, like he usually did. He went straight up to the second floor of his home, down the hall, and he pulled out the key from his pocket and opened the door.

No one was allowed to enter this room. The nursery, with the bed his son had slept in, and his little girl’s crib. Two innocent children taken from him by their own freaking mother.

Every second he’d been married to Isabella had been a nightmare. She believed because she was considered the most beautiful woman in the Villa Mafia, that it gave her power. She would throw temper tantrums to get what she wanted. She would do whatever she could to get attention. Most of the time, he wasn’t willing to give in, but when she became pregnant with his son, he showed her the attention. After a while, she settled down.

There were moments he had no choice but to leave her, and she would threaten to stab her own fucking stomach to get her way.

He wanted the kid. Children were what the Villa Mafia needed. It was why he was married off in the first place.

He picked up the teddy he had gotten for Mateo, his little boy, on his fourth and final birthday.

Enzo heard Harper approach, and he looked up to see her back in her uniform. He had already ordered a small package for her to be delivered. He had a feeling that going out shopping and paying a fortune on her would make her uncomfortable. So, instead, she was going to receive items of clothing in small packages over the next few months.

“I heard you come in,” Harper said. “Is there anything I could get you?”

“I was a dad of two,” Enzo said. “It all happened Halloween night, six years ago now.” He looked up at her, and Harper had stepped into the room.

She had never been inside this room, because he’d been the one to keep this room clean, and dust free. He came inside once a week when he was feeling numb, and when it didn’t hurt.

“My wife was a fucking nightmare, and I hated her guts, but duty demanded I have a wife and continue the Castelli line. Isabella had been chosen for me years ago, when she was nothing more than a teenage girl. That’s how it is, they’re chosen young and their fates are decided. So, I married her, and within that first year, she got pregnant and we had a little boy, Mateo. It would be a couple of years before we had Rosa, my little girl.” He stared at Harper.

“What happened on Halloween?” Harper asked.

“Isabella had told me I wasn’t to be late to her Halloween party. I had business and it ran late. She had mentioned that if I didn’t show up, it was going to cost me. I turned up late, because I had to do what I had to do, and when I entered, I found my parents, as well as hers, facedown in their food. She had poisoned them. All four of them. As for our children, she had taken them out to the pool ... and ... they couldn’t swim. Mateo tried to save his sister, and my wife just watched them flail and beg their mommy to stop.” Enzo stopped. He had watched the footage. He looked over at Harper and saw the tears falling down her cheeks.

“She did it to punish me. She hated me every bit as much as I hated her.”

“Where is she?” Harper asked.

Enzo smiled. “Dead. I choked the life out of her. She didn’t think I was going to do it, but I stared in her eyes and I ended her, just as she ended the children I loved more than anything.”
