“I don’t know,” I say, “maybe because Iloveyou?”

He lifts his head, eyes going wide. “You do?”

“Oh Gods, don’t look so shocked. Why did you think I was coming with you?”

“I don’t know. For my pretty eyes? My body? My big cock?”

I laugh. “Well, I love all of that, but I love even more your kindness and protectiveness, your fairness and gentleness, my wolf. How could anyone not love you?”

“You just never said so,” he whispers.

“I love you.” I look right into his golden eyes. “I love you so much. More than I ever thought possible. You make me happy. You make me smile.”

“You make me happy, too, my love.” His voice is a low rasp I feel everywhere. “My bondmate. I’ve never been happier than when I am with you. When I thought you were going to wed that bastard, I almost lost my mind. I can’t fucking live without you.”

He kisses me, a light brush of lips, then deeper, his tongue twining with mine. My body catches on fire as he lowers himself to settle between my legs, his cock and knot pressing against my thigh.

Konstam wolf-whistles.

Darian tells us to get a room, which is kind of funny since we are in the middle of nowhere.

I like these irreverent, lovely fae, and above all, I love my mate. I only have to hope that once we settle down in the mountains, he will be the same. That in his home, he won’t show me a different face.

I’m confident he won’t, though. I’ve seen his bright soul. Seen how he treats people. How he treats me. I trust him with my heart and with the rest of my life.

He protected me, took care of me, offered me pleasure, and suffered for me.

I’m taking a chance on him, because he’s worth it.

CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO

VALERIAN

She loves me.

Something has clicked into place inside my head and body, and the relief is undeniable. I never thought hearing those words would affect me this fucking much.

Those words spoken by my mate, the woman I’ve been in love with from the moment I saw her, and more so with each passing day.

I could stay here, lying on the soft soil and kissing her forever.

But the bastard lord of the manor may send more men and dogs to find her. He wants her lands and didn’t hesitate to send killers once already. He has no scruples.

And she’s right. We don’t care about him. Happiness is the goal, and I’m happy with her. We’ll go home, to the mountains, to my family.

Will she like it there? I hope so. But if not, I don’t care where we live, as long as I get to see her face every morning and hold her every night in our bed.

I’m a simple man. Son of the Blue Moon priestess—but still just a man. A man in love. Can’t believe my luck. I need to makean offering to the Gods, not to cause their jealousy or even their attention. After all, so many people find the love of their lives.

It still feels like a miracle. Something I don’t deserve.

But she deserves happiness and I’ll do everything in my power to give it to her. It will be my honor and joy to take care of her. To love her as she deserves to be loved.

I’m flying. Fucking flying. Also, I got a little something in my eye.

“Valen. We should get going.” Darian sniffs the air. “This place isn’t safe. We’ve lingered enough.”

“Yeah,” I say roughly. “Right.”
