I pulled out my phone. “Number?”

He walked over to his desk, grabbed his phone with one hand, and rattled off the number. I dialed it, and Scott answered on the first ring.

“Hello.”

Hearing his voice made my stomach churn.

“Scott, it’s Samantha.”

“Sam, I wondered if I was ever going to hear from you.”

“Surprise. Now you can stop wondering. We need to talk.”

“I would like to see my daughter.”

“You lost that right the day you left and never looked back. Here’s my address. Be at my house at seven o’clock.”

“Will Zoey be there?”

“Zoey is spending the night at her friend’s house.”

“Okay. I’ll see you at seven.”

I ended the call and fell into the chair.

“You’ll be home, right?” I asked Wes.

“Of course, I will be. I wouldn’t let you meet with him alone.”

“Why?” I furrowed my brows.

“Because I’m afraid of what you might do to him,” he smirked.

“Would you really care?” I arched my brow.

“Well, no. But I would care if you ended up in prison.”

“I wouldn’t go to prison. We’d hide the body where nobody would ever find it. He’d disappear into thin air.” I smiled. “Poof. Scott Louis wiped from existence.”

His brows furrowed at me. “You’re kind of scaring me.”

“You should hear the ideas Zoey came up with.”

“What ideas?”

“Apparently, feeding him to alligators is too Florida, and buying him in the desert is overused and overdone.”

“I don’t know whether to be impressed or concerned.” He looked down at Charlotte.

“Concerned. Definitely concerned.”

“And that right there is the reason why I will not let you meet with him alone.” He pointed at me.

I crossed my arms and cocked my head.

“Relax. We’re kidding. Mostly.”

“Promise me one thing,” he said.
