Once we were in the house, I put on some music, taking her in my arms and moving her around the back patio to the slow beats. Her arms twined around my neck, her eyes half closed. I watched her relaxed smile tighten, and she looked up at me as she tugged herself closer.

“Kon?” she asked in a soft voice. I loved hearing her say my name in a tone that wasn’t full of anger.

“Anything,” I said. “Just name it.”

She giggled, but it sounded forced. I paused, bracing myself. “I was thinking if I had access to CJ’s database, I might be able to find more links to Papa.”

“When were you thinking about that?” I asked coldly, dropping my hands from her waist. “What part of our fun, relaxing day were you plotting to bring this up?”

It pissed me off that my feelings were hurt more than I was angry. She had been manipulating me, and I had loved every damn minute of it. She shook her head, denying it had anything to do with our outing.

“I just thought I could help,” she said, trying to get close to me again, pressing her soft tits against my chest as she raised herself on her toes. She pressed a kiss against my mouth, warm and sweet.

And completely fake?

Why the hell didn’t I just take advantage of this situation? I wanted the woman so badly that every muscle in my body ached for her. I didn’t want to believe the way her tongue slid along the seam of my lips wasn’t real. The times before had definitely been real; there was no denying that. I couldn’t. It would drive me over the edge.

I shoved her away. “I didn’t believe you were such a good actress.”

That clearly hurt her, and I should have been glad, but the flash of pain in her eyes hurt me just as much. Maybe more, damn it.

“Nothing about today was an act,” she said. “Maybe I shouldn’t have brought it up so soon, but—”

“Oh, better to wait until I’ve had my fill of your body? Until I was sweating on top of you, perhaps still inside you?”

The slap was loud and totally unexpected. Stumbling back, she winced, rubbing her palm as she glared at me. “It’s not like that,” she said, her voice failing. She cleared her throat. “I just don’t understand why you won’t trust me.”

I tapped my stinging cheek and glared right back at her. “There are too many reasons why I shouldn’t trust you to list,” I said.

“Shouldn’t?” she asked.

I reached for her. “Yes, you impossible woman. But I do, or I wouldn’t have let you get involved at all. And then you pull a stunt like this and make me doubt everything.”

“Then why are you keeping me from information I might know something about?”

Her big blue eyes, her set, firm mouth, the way she tried to keep me from noticing her trembling hands while she stood up to me, combined with her refusal to understand, had me on the verge of erupting.

“I’m not keeping you from information, I’m keeping you from danger,” I said, stunned that it didn’t come out as a shout. I gripped her arms and forced her back to me. “Don’t you get it, Tati? Thinking about anything bad happening to you tears me up inside. It makes me want to claw at the walls, scream at the sky, fight the goddamn ocean. I cannot and will not be reckless with you.”

She gasped at the force of my words, my tight hold on her arms. Yanking her close, my mouth slammed against hers. Her hands flattened against my chest, but then her fingers curled in my shirt, tugging instead of pushing. She was as wild as I was, as if my feelings were strong enough for both of us. Or if the feelings she had been fighting were finally coming out.

My tongue tangled with hers as she wrapped her arms around my neck, her leg around my hip, trying to crawl up my body. I was as hard as a rock, desperate for her, but I peeled away, keeping her at arm’s length as I searched her face.

She blinked up at me, her eyes blank with lust, her lips parted. I wanted her more than I wanted to draw another breath, but…

“If you’re only doing this to try and get something from me, you should run to your room and lock the door,” I growled.

“Kon,” she breathed, throwing herself at me again without a second’s hesitation.

Good. This was more like it.

As worked up as I was, something had loosened in my chest. I picked her up and carried her to the nearest lounge chair, never breaking our wild kiss. I needed her, and badly. But I needed to hear her screams of pleasure echo out across the ocean first. I had been cruel and couldn’t apologize because she had also hurt me.

Maybe unwittingly, or maybe she regretted trying to manipulate me. Maybe one day we could have conversations about things like that. Now all I had were my hands and my mouth to show her how important she was to me.

And her reaction when I tore her dress down the middle was anything but fake. Her chest heaved, and her gorgeous tits swelled against her lacy bra. Shoving the fabric of her ruined dress aside, I came to my senses enough to trace my fingers along the edge, then smoothed my palm down her belly.

She writhed and reached for me, but I shook my head. “Let me play,” I said. “You’ll like it, I promise.”
