“Yes.”
“Yes, you want a kiss?”
“No. I mean, yes. Yes, I want a kiss, and yes I’ll marry you. I mean… I’m sayingyes, Prince. To all of it. Yes!” She laughed again, and when she smiled at him with a light that rivaled the fireworks in the sky, it cracked him wide open, setting him on fire from the inside out.
Gabriel didn’t fight it. He welcomed it. Needed it.
He slid his arms around her and finally flipped her so he was on top, his urge to claim her too overpowering to ignore. He thrust deep between her bare thighs, owning her as he always did, hot and hard and perfect, the rose bushes shuddering around them, a hundred white petals falling like the softest rain.
And when the fireworks had finally faded into trails of white smoke, and the revelers poured out of the bars and into the streets, and she fisted his hair and her body clenched tight around him, he came in a blinding hot rush, and Jacinda trembled and gasped, whispering his name to the stars as if she were writing their story upon each one, and for the first time in his long immortal life, Gabriel spoke the words of the season and deeply, truly meant them.
“Happy New Year, little moonflower. Happy New Year.”
