“When’s the next one? Tomorrow?” I ask playfully, knowing that it isn’t happening. Grant has a lot to go over with the insurance company and to get his store put back together.
“No, but I have an idea. We need to spoil her, too. When’s the last time anyone’s done something nice for her?”
“Good point. Probably never. When she was with Andy, they were probably broke if they were planning a wedding.”
“I’ll take care of a gift, but you need to think of the next date. As much as I need this time, I think she does too. I didn’t say it was going to be easy. We are just going to have to fuck a hell of a lot more.”
“You’re right. It’s just hard, especially because we’ve tasted her.”
“Not enough. Time will fly by. I don’t know how much we need, but we’ll know when it’s right again. If we want something lasting, we need this.”
“I get it. So, next date. What about the comedy club?” I love her laugh, and what better place to hear it more?
“That sounds perfect. We haven’t been for a while, and I can almost guess that she’s never been. I want to keep giving her new experiences.”
“You’re really loving this, aren’t you?” I love seeing his face light up when he talks about her.
“Yes, I am. I had the best time tonight with both of you. She’s fun, sweet, and full of life when she’s not worried or scared. I hate everything she’s been through, but that doesn’t define her. And I’m happy she’s working with a therapist.”
“Me too. I knew she needed that before the letters and Shelly. Before knowing Andy had cheated on her.”
“For now, I’m going to carry you into our bathroom. While the shower heats up, I’m going to fill your hole up again. Then I’ll clean you up and take you to bed. Tomorrow, we need to talk about new furniture.”
“I like your plans.” And with that, my husband continues to give me everything I need.

Buzz.
Why is my buzzer going off? I look at the clock, it’s ten in the morning. And for once, I was still sleeping! My dream was on repeat all night, replaying our date. Thinking about how much fun we had. About not having to worry about anything.
Buzz.
“Okay. I’m coming.” Not that they can hear me. Who the hell is it? I get up to hit the intercom, “Hello?”
“Delivery for Miss Fern.”
“Okay.” I let him in. Besides, no one at this hour isn’t a mass murderer. I don’t think.
I look through the peephole before I unlock and open my door.
Omg.
Those can’t be for me. No freaking way.
The delivery guy hands me the largest bouquet of red and white roses. He smiles and walks away.
The fresh scent of flowers hits my nose, heavenly. I turn back into my apartment, admiring them. They seem even larger in my small apartment.
I’ve never received something this enormous or so wonderful. I put them on my kitchen table and look for the card. They have to be from the guys. My guys.

Thank you for the best first
