Mac had offered to pick them up at the airport.
Doc stood in the main sitting room, drinking a beer, looking at Maeve, who kept entering the room, seeing him and disappearing.
Nancy was talking to him about Charlotte wanting to take a few extra courses.His daughter had already come to him and asked if she could.He’d paid the money, and his daughter was free to do whatever she wanted.
He didn’t like the idea of Maeve using him for sex.
“Are you even listening to me right now?”Nancy asked.
He turned toward his ex and glared at her.“No, I’m not.Stop meddling with Charlotte.If she wants to take classes, let her take classes.This is not your life.This is her life.Stop trying to live it for her.”
With that, he handed her his empty beer, made his way into the kitchen, and Maeve was there, but she tried to hide.He grabbed her hand and pulled her outside.It was cold as fuck outside.The weather had taken a sudden turn, and he’d even seen the forecast suggested it could snow in a matter of days.
“What are you doing?”she asked.
He pressed her up against the wall.They were out of any line of sight.
“What am I doing?What the fuck is all this, Maeve?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
He raised his brows.“Seriously.You get your period and you’re treating me like I don’t exist.Did you just want to use my dick?Is that it?You wanted a good hard fuck, and now that you had that, you’re done.”
She went to slap him around the face, but he caught her hand and shook his head.“Don’t do that,” he said.“I don’t deserve to be hit.”
She glared at him.“I am not using you.How dare you even imply that!”
“What do you expect me to think?You get your period and you, what, vanish on me?”
Her face had gone a delightful shade of red.She looked so cute when she was angry.It made him want to make her angry more, but right now he was the one that was pissed and he wanted answers.
“I don’t know what you want to think.What I don’t think is a good idea is talking about it now when my sister is about to arrive, and your ex-wife and daughter are in the house.”
“You’re worried about Nancy?”
“I’m worried about a lot of things.I’m worried about Eden, and I’m worried about Charlotte.And yes, I am worried about your ex-wife feeling hurt or betrayed because of us.There is a lot at stake here, and not only that, are we both, like, completely insane?We had unprotected sex, and it was hot, and I loved every second of it, but do you have any idea the risks that are involved, and you’re not exactly known for being in relationships, and I make a lot of bad choices, like right now, I am still talking, and you’re smiling at me, and you need to get me to stop freaking talking!”She stopped and took a deep breath.
“I liked my dick being inside you as well.”He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to the corner of her lips.
“This is not helping,” she said.“I don’t fall into bed with a man after just one date.I don’t have unprotected sex.”
He kissed down to her neck and sucked on her pulse.
“But do you like sneaking around?”he asked.
She moaned.“I don’t know.I don’t know what this is, and I don’t want Eden worrying.She’s pregnant and a new wife, and I don’t know what this is.”
Doc knew exactly what this was, but he was happy to work at Maeve’s pace.He had already fallen for her.She was everything he had ever wanted and didn’t even realize he needed.He couldn’t get enough of her.This is what he never got from Nancy.
“So, before we come clean to everyone, why don’t we explore this ourselves?No one has to know.We keep it between us, but that does mean you don’t fucking ghost me.You don’t ignore me, and when you’ve got worries or concerns, you come to me.”
“Is that what you want to do?”
“It’s our only choice right now, unless you want to go in there, the two of us, together?”
She nibbled her lip, and she looked so ...scared.He had no idea about her previous relationships, but he was going to find out.
“Okay, we keep this between us.I won’t ignore you, and we can make this work, and that way it doesn’t cause any trouble for anyone else.”
