“He’s going to be fine,” I lie because I have no idea how bad the gunshot wound is. “Stay on the line with me and ask them which hospital they’re taking him to.”

I get as much information from Gianna, and as I forward it to Enzo, he notifies me that Augusto and a team of men are going with him to Tokyo.

“It’s going to take the guys around fourteen to fifteen hours to get to you, so you need to stay strong,” I tell Gianna. “I’ll be with you the whole time.”

“Yes!” Dad hisses when I slip into the club’s security system.

I begin to search through all the feeds until I find Gianna and Riccardo. The footage quality is excellent, and when theparamedics begin to move the stretcher with Riccardo, I say, “The hospital, Gianna. Find out now.”

I do facial recognition on the first responders to make sure they’re not Yakuza who intend to kidnap my friend, and listen as she gets the information from them.

When I finally have the name of the hospital, I begin the process of hacking into the systems because it will take longer than getting into a club.

“I’m going to switch to a video call with you. I want the ambulance’s information so I can track it.”

“Okay.”

We switch to a video call, and when I see her distraught face, I pause for a moment to say, “I’m here. Okay? You’re not alone. I’ll keep you safe.”

Her features crumble, and she cries too hard to reply.

When the information pops up on my screen, I tell her, “The paramedics are legit. You can go with them.”

Gianna’s breaths are nothing but quivering puffs, and it breaks my heart.

“I have eyes on you. Enzo and Augusto are on their way. I don’t see any immediate threats around you. Just keep moving. Stick to them like glue.” When they’re outside, I order, “Sweep your camera over the ambulance and surrounding area so I can get a visual.”

As soon as I have it, I type in all the information so I can track the vehicle and also check for any people who might be affiliated with the Yakuza.

Gianna’s camera is shaky on Riccardo as she gets into the ambulance, and my heart cracks down the middle when I see he’s been shot in the chest. There’s so much blood, and he’s pale as hell.

“Fuck,” Dad whispers, then he rips his phone out of his pocket and dials a number. While it rings, he points at thescreen, still showing the inside of the club where Gianna’s guards lie dead. “I’ll take care of them.”

Sad because we lost good men, I make a mental note to take care of their funerals and payouts to their families. I think Augusto and Enzo are going to be too busy to think of that.

“Franco,” Dad says when Riccardo’s father answers the call. “They’ve just loaded Riccardo into an ambulance. He’s alive.”

While Dad talks to one of his best friends and my godfather, I relay all the information I’ve managed to find to Enzo and Augusto, and when the ambulance makes it to the hospital, I notify everyone and stay with Gianna.

“My phone is dying,” she says, panic rising in her voice.

“Give me a couple of minutes.” I check for the nearest store that’s open twenty-four-seven and order a USB cable that will be compatible with her phone to be delivered to the hospital. “I’ve placed an order for you. Go wait at the entrance, but stay inside the hospital at all times. The USB cable should be there in give or take thirty minutes. What percentage is your battery?”

“Fourteen.”

“Okay. We’re switching over to texting only in case of emergencies. Once your phone is charging, I’ll call again.”

“Thanks, Rosie.”

“I love you,” I say before ending the call.

“You’re pale,” Dad mentions. “How’s your pain?”

“Fine.” I continue working, keeping tabs on everything.

Surrounded by screens, I lose myself in the grid until Augusto and Enzo are with Gianna, and only then do I come up for air.

“That’s enough,” Dad mutters. “Eat.”
