“How about me?”

Rosie’s head snaps so fast in my direction she almost gives herself whiplash. “Are you serious?”

“Yes.”

Shock flutters over her face, but then she shakes her head. “Christiano will never allow it.”

When I stop the Mustang at a red light, I lock eyes with Rosie. “I’ll be the underboss for both families. Nico has been taking over some of my workload, and he can continue with it, which will give me more time to help you.”

Rosie just stares at me with her lips parted.

“Besides, when we have children one day, our heir will take over your family’s seat in the Cosa Nostra. Until then, it’s only right that I help you protect it.”

She blinks at me for a moment, then tilts her head while a grin spreads over her face. “Our children?”

Fuck. Maybe I should’ve checked if she even wants children.

I backtrack real fucking quick and say, “That’s of course if you want kids. If not, it’s okay. I still want to help you and honestly don’t trust anyone to be your underboss.”

“I want children.” Her expression turns shy. “I just never thought I’d have them with you.”

The light turns green, and pushing down on the gas, I steer the Mustang across the intersection before placing my hand on top of hers. “So you’re good with me being your underboss?”

Rosie brushes her palm over the scars on my forearm. “I’d be honored to have you represent me.”

“Good. Then it’s settled.”

Rosie turns slightly in her seat and stares at me all the way home. By the time I park the Mustang in the designated spot, emotion trembles in the air between us.

I get out and head around the front of the vehicle to open Rosie’s door, and when she’s standing beside me, I take her hand and tug her toward the elevator.

Okay, Enzo. Don’t fuck this up.

I actually begin to feel nervous, which is an emotion I’m not well acquainted with.

When the elevator doors open on the top floor and we walk into the foyer, Rosie pulls her hand from mine and heads toward the stairs.

“I’m going to shower, and afterward, I’ll make something to eat, so don’t you dare go near the kitchen.”

“Okay.” I follow her up the stairs.

“I’m serious.”

“I’m not arguing.”

As we walk into the bedroom, she glances at me, then a frown forms on her forehead. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” I take hold of her hand and pull her to the bed. “Take a seat.”

She plops down on the covers, and when I sit down beside her, she gives me a questioning look.

“I want to check with you so I don’t fuck things up.” My fingers tighten around hers. “Do you need a heads-up to prepare for sex, or do you want it to happen spontaneously?”

Her eyes go wide as saucers. “Oh, okay, I so did not expect you to say that.” Glancing away from me, she tries to hide the shy smile that forms around her mouth. “I vote for spontaneous. It’s been –”

I move fast, and hooking an arm around her, I shift her up the bed before my mouth slams into hers.

A startled gasp escapes Rosie, and not wanting her to start overthinking things, I kiss her wildly, making sure to silence her thoughts and have her focus on me.
