I pull my sleeve down and smile at my parents. “Now you can find me if I go missing again.”

Dad nods as he pulls me into a tight hug. “I’ll always find you, Rosellina.”

As the welcome-back party continues, I feel more like myself, and by the time we have to go home to meet Dr. Milazzo for my checkup, my heart doesn’t feel as heavy anymore, and the pressure from the nightmare I survived loses some of its hold on me.

Chapter 28

Enzo

Slowly, we’ve been carving out a new normal for us.

Rosie is so fucking resilient, I didn’t expect her to bounce back so quickly, but Christ, she amazes me more and more with every passing day.

When she slips on the Gucci cat’s-eye-framed glasses, the corner of my mouth lifts.

Turning to me, she asks, “How do they look?”

“Hot as fuck,” I mutter, hooking my arm around her and hauling her against my body.

She wags her eyebrows at me. “Is that so?”

I nod while ducking to press a kiss to her lips, and when I lift my head, I love seeing the surprise in her eyes.

Even after being a couple for close to three weeks, I get the feeling Rosie is still struggling to believe it’s real.

At first, I thought taking things slow so she could get used to us would be best, but yesterday I realized that’s not what she needs. She needs me to claim her and show her that she’s the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.

And that’s why I bought a box of condoms.

Once we get home, I plan to take ownership of every inch of her body.

Rosie frowns, her eyes narrowing slightly. “I can’t read your expression. What are you thinking?”

“You’ll find out soon enough.” Grabbing the holder, her glasses came in, I place it in the bag with the extra set we ordered, and gripping her hand, I lead her out to the parking area.

I scan over our surroundings, making sure nothing looks out of place, and getting my woman safely into the passenger seat, I set the bag down on her lap.

I feel her eyes on me as I walk to the driver’s side, and when I slip behind the steering wheel, she asks, “What’s going on? Did you plan another surprise for me?”

“You could say so,” I answer vaguely.

Rosie pulls the glasses off her face and digs the holder out of the bag before carefully placing them in it.

“I have a massive delivery coming tomorrow,” she mentions. “I need to be at the building at eight a.m. sharp.”

“Okay.”

Because I’ve been busy with Rosie, Christiano has had Nico take over some of my work, while Hugo has stepped in as his bodyguard.

I plan to talk to my brother in the next couple of days, but I first have to run it by Rosie.

“So, I’ve been thinking,” I begin the conversation I’ve put off for long enough. “You need a new underboss.”

Rosie sucks in a deep breath and lets it out slowly. “I can’t think of a single person who can replace Raffaele.”

“Not even one?” I ask, the corner of my mouth lifting slightly.

“Nope.”
