Savannah
I’m actually relieved Alex is gone for a few days so I don’t have to face him after sending that photo. I still can’t quite believe I sent it to him. We’ve exchanged quite a few flirtatious texts since, but nothing as racy as that.
My swims while he’s been away are good, but I’m still distracted; this time from missing him in the lane next to me. Even though I swam without him for months before he started coming to my pool, it’s lonely now.
I’m still committed to my plan for just casual sex with Alex. I’m quite certain that’s all he is interested in, and Carlene was right. Wearing my new lingerie, even knowing I won’t see Alex, makes me feel like a total sex kitten.
The day he’s meant to fly back, my stomach is in knots. He didn’t tell me exactly when he’ll be home, nor did we make any sort of plan, but his message from the weekend is stuck in my head. We’ll revisit this…there’s no mistaking what he meant by that, and our conversations since then have continued to be full of innuendo and anticipation.
I’ve worked from home this week, living in the same pair of leggings and baggy sweatshirt, and binge eating dry cereal. Desperate to keep busy, I’m caught up on everything for my work at Forever Grey. But thoughts of Alex have me too distracted to accomplish much on the investigation into Fortune.
The downside to my work setup is that when Alex video calls me Wednesday afternoon, I’m a hot mess. No, not even ahotmess, just a mess. We’ve only spoken via text up until now, so I have no idea why he’s jumping all the way to video. I briefly consider ignoring the call, but I’m embarrassingly desperate to see his face. I quickly redo my messy bun and check my face for cereal crumbs before I answer.
“Hey, you,” I say lamely when his handsome face fills the screen. There are dark circles under his tired eyes, but he’s still sexy as ever.
“Hello, love. I hope you don’t mind the video, I needed to see something beautiful.”
Cue heart melting. Seriously? That’s a swoony line if I’ve ever heard one and my needy self is here for it.
“Sorry to disappoint,” I quip, hoping to lighten the growing sexual tension.
“You could never disappoint me, Savannah,” he says. “Will I see you at the pool tomorrow?”
I nod. A small, hesitant smile crosses his face, and I melt even more, knowing I am the reason for it.
“That’s good to hear. I…” He stops, and clears his throat. “Well, I miss you.” His eyes dart down, then back up to meet mine through the screen.
“Same,” I manage to stammer out. This vulnerability that he’s showing me, good gravy, it’s making my panties wet.
His eyes darken, visible even over the phone. “I want to kiss you again.”
My breath comes out in a nervous laugh. “I think I would be okay with that.”
He chuckles, shaking his head but smiling at me. “Good.” I see him glance down, and a slight frown covers his face. “Damn. I should go. Our flight leaves soon.”
“Yeah, I should get back to work,” I say lamely.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, love.” Alex winks at me, then the screen goes black.
Unfortunately, the universe is conspiring against me, and as I’m getting ready to leave for the pool the next morning, I get an urgent call from a client who lives overseas and needs my help. No swim for me today. I shoot Alex a quick text to let him know I won’t be there, but when he doesn’t reply, I assume he’s already in the water.
An hour and a half later, my client’s problem is resolved, and I’m beyond hangry. When there’s a knock at my door, I stand up and stretch with a groan. It’s probably the building super, finally here to look at the leak under my sink that I’ve been complaining about for a week.
But when I open the door, it’s not Rodney standing there with his toolbox. It’s Alex, and he’s got something so much better.
“Are those donuts? Gimme, gimme, gimme.” I snatch the box away from him and turn to walk into my apartment, my hunger overriding any other reaction to his presence. He follows me in, and I hear him walk over to the kitchen where I’m standing, with my eyes closed, indulging in the sugary goodness that is a fresh apple fritter from my favorite bakery. When I open my eyes, he’s standing close to me, smirking and holding out a coffee cup.
“You’re my favorite person right now,” I say as I take the cup and drink some. I meet his eyes, and my heart flutters at the warmth I see shining at me. For a man who only wants sex, he certainly is pulling out all the stops.
“I missed you this morning.” His voice is gravelly, but his accent gives it the air of sophisticated sexiness that sends shivers down my spine.
I put the coffee cup down on the counter, grateful I had the forethought to brush my hair and teeth this morning. I did think I was going to see him at the pool, after all.
“Sorry. Client emergency.”
He nods, his hands tucked in his pockets, giving him a casual, yet still undeniably sexy air. I’m burning up just being near him again.
