As the sunlight creeping past the spaces in the blinds landed on Callie’s face, she blinked sleepily. Jake was a wall of heat wrapped around her body, and she could feel his breath moving softly against her neck. She turned in his arms and smiled when she felt him tighten his hold. His eyes opened to meet hers, and he pressed a sweet kiss to her forehead before gazing at her, his chocolate eyes shining.

“Callie, I love you. I wanted to plan some fancy way to tell you, but honestly, this moment here, waking up wrapped around you after a night spent together feels like the perfect time. I’ve been falling in love with you since that first night. You’re it for me Gorgeous, you’re everything I’ve ever wanted.”

Surprise, warmth and joy flooded through Callie, making her whole body feel alive in a way she had never felt before. Tears pricked her eyes, but before they could fall, she found herself locked in his embrace. In between kisses, Jake wiped her tears, and smiled gently.

“I hope those are happy tears, babe.”

“Oh they are, I promise!” With shining eyes, she caressed Jake’s cheek. “I love you too, Jake. You won me over with peach ale and your hot bartender body.”

With a growl, Jake flipped them over so that she was pinned beneath him.

“My hot body huh? Well, how about that hot body shows you just how much it loves you.”

Shivers ran up and down Callie’s spine as Jake ran his hands over her body. His strong fingers grazed her hips, and swiftly found her center, already wet and ready.

“Damn, I love you.” Jake’s voice was full of wonder, just before covering her mouth with his in a demanding kiss. Their breath intermingled, as his fingers teased her clit, quickly bringing Callie to the brink. As he slid down her body, so that his mouth could join his fingers, all she could do was let out a moan at her overwhelming arousal.

His tongue lapped her sweetness in long strokes up and down as his finger pulsed inside. And when he took her clit into his mouth and tugged it gently between his teeth, she writhed at the sensation before succumbing to the sweet surrender of an orgasm. As she came down from her release, Callie reached between them to wrap her fingers around the part of Jake’s hot body that was rapidly growing.

“You drive me crazy, Jake, let me repay the favor.”

When she squeezed gently around the base of his cock, Jake let out a tortured groan. “Your hands feel amazing, and I want to make this last forever. But if I don’t get inside of you right this goddamn minute, I’m going to go insane.”

The heat in his voice made Callie shiver with desire, already eager to love him again as she guided the tip of his cock to rub over her wet mound.

“Well we can’t have that now can we…”

Jake’s eyes grew dark with erotic passion, as he grabbed one of Callie’s legs, pressed a kiss to her ankle and lifted it over his shoulder. Then he sank inside, causing her walls to clench around him like a vice. She couldn’t help but cry out as this new position caused friction in all the right ways. His cock caressed her inner walls, and lit her up from the inside out.

“Oh my god!”

“Babe you’re so damn tight like this, you’re perfect. I love you.”

Every thrust Jake made seemed to hit Callie’s g-spot perfectly, bringing her to the edge of orgasm faster than a speeding train. Her nails dug into his rock-hard ass, as she met every push of his cock with an arch of her hips.

When they catapulted into climax seconds apart from each other, all Callie could think to do was wrap her arms tightly around him and whisper in his ear, “I love you too.”

Chapter 15

Just over twenty-four hours after Jake had filled her heart and soul with proclamations of love, Callie found herself growing more and more panicked as she waited for him to pick her up for the party. She hoped the memory of the tenderness and passion Jake had shown her the other night would be enough to help her withstand an evening filled with the negative judgement she was certain would come from her critical parents.

Dressed in a demure navy-blue cocktail dress, Callie looked in the mirror and saw a stranger looking back at her. The subtle makeup, pinned up hair and pearl jewelry belonged on someone else, not Callie Scott the trauma physician who would rather be drinking a beer and going for a hike with her boyfriend. For the millionth time that day, Callie’s mind raced as she envisioned all of the ways tonight could go wrong, from her parents’ likely disapproval of Jake, to the criticism she expected to hear from her mother about everything from her appearance to her choice of career. Callie knew she could handle the insults that would be thrown her way, after all she had a lifetime of experience that had somewhat toughened her against her mother’s snide remarks. What Callie didn’t know was how she would react to seeing her parents rip into Jake the way she was certain they would. She wanted to believe she had the strength to stand up to her mother and father, and not let them disrespect the man she loved, but deep-down Callie knew that her biggest weakness was her life-long desire to win the approval of her parents. What she couldn’t predict was how much she would be willing to sacrifice to get it. And not knowing that about herself had Callie’s stomach tied in knots.

The drive to Salem was quiet. Jake tried to fill the time with conversation about the pub and asking Callie her opinion on various trivia night topics. After his first few failed attempts to draw her out of her shell, he seemed to realize Callie needed to be left to her thoughts.

As they pulled into the long circular driveway, she turned to him with a near frantic look in her eyes.

“Jake, whatever happens tonight I’m sorry. My parents will seem cold, judgmental, and only interested in their own goals in life. They are impossible to impress, and they will not hesitate to make their opinions known about me, about you, about us. I try to believe they act this way out of some misguided understanding of parental love, but that’s difficult to believe sometimes. So just know, before we go in there, I am sorry. So very sorry, if they say or do anything tonight to make you doubt yourself or our relationship.”

Understanding dawned on Jake when he looked over to see the worry in Callie’s face. The people who were meant to love her unconditionally, lift her up in life and encourage her, had in fact done nothing but belittle her and use her for their own selfish ambitions. He had known Callie had her reasons for being nervous tonight, but he hadn’t fully appreciated the depth of conflicting emotions she was battling inside her heart. He wished desperately that there was something he could do to reassure her once and for all that nothing would change the love he felt for her. Jake was positive that he and Callie were the real deal, just like his parents. Their love was strong; strong enough to fight whatever emotional warfare her parents waged on Callie tonight.

Callie gripped Jake’s hand tightly in hers as he rang the doorbell. He hid his surprise when a butler answered the door, unaccustomed as he was to such displays of wealth. Her parents were not in the entryway, but as Jake handed his coat to the butler, he could hear the murmur of voices coming from inside the house.

They walked down the hallway to the formal living room. Jake looked around, comparing the cold elegance of Callie’s family home, to the warmth and comfort he had grown up with. Instead of family photos, the walls were lined with abstract art. Forget warm hardwood floors, here it was cool white marble that echoed every footstep.
