“I knew it from the first time we danced together.”

“Outside? On the patio?”

Alex nodded. “There was that spark. That something extra.”

“I’m sorry I wasted these last two months fighting this.”

“Don’t be.”

“I was just so afraid of turning into Melissa.”

“We’re both single. No one is cheating on anyone. And I’m wise beyond my years,” Alex added with a smirk, earning her a playful shove.

“I freaked out. And I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be. It was two months, and you know what? It might have even done us some good. I knew I cared about you, too much really, but it wasn’t until I couldn’t see you, couldn’t talk to you that I realized just how much.”

“I know,” Emily whispered. “Thank you for understanding. For being so patient. Maybe you really are wise beyond your years,” she said with a smile.

“Oh, I know I am.”

Alex smiled into the kiss, and Emily felt like her heart might explode. After a rough two months, things were finally back on track.

“So,” Alex said as she broke the kiss and leaned back to meet Emily’s eyes. “Can I call you my girlfriend? At least in private. I’m not talking about declaring it to the world. Not yet anyway.”

“Yes.” Emily brushed her lips over Alex’s. “You can.”
