My hand rests on my stomach, amazed that I’m growing a little life inside of me. I’ve thought about it over the years, but Christian was never really on board with having kids. And the fact that he treated me like trash a lot of the time really deterred me a lot.
Tide? He makes me feel like I’m a queen. Like I’m the only woman in the world that’s important. And to see him so happy about having this baby? It does something to me. It makes me think that we’ll be fine in the future, and that he will truly try to be a good dad with this child. There’s always that little doubt, though. The thought that he might go back to jail, and I’ll end up raising this baby alone, but I have to have some kind of faith in him. And I do. I’m just scared of what’s going to happen with Beth.
“So, how do you feel?” Bella asks as I sit back and watch Rebel and Riley playing. They get along so well. I’m so proud of them and how far they’ve come.
“The doctor said I could have some morning sickness but I haven’t so far. I actually feel great,” I tell her.
“That’s good. I’m glad you’re feeling good.”
“Me too. And I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done, Bella. I mean you kept everything running smoothly even when I was gone.”
“You don’t have to thank me. It’s what we do, right? We keep each other going. Now I just need to know how to pick up one ofthose hot bikers you got.” We both laugh as we watch the dogs playing.
“He’s…different. Not something I’m used to, but I love it. He makes me feel safe and happy. I didn’t realize just how much I was missing out on with Christian,” I tell her.
“Like what?”
“Like a man who actually cares about me. One who wants to take care of me and would do anything for me.”
“That’s because I would.”
I smile when I hear his voice and look over my shoulder to see Tide standing there.
“I know.”
“Good. I’m glad you know that. Now, how’s my dog?” He asks as he looks out at Rebel running around.
“He’s taking a break with Riley. You ready to take him back to the clubhouse?”
“He’s ready for that?” I nod my head as Tide walks around and takes the seat next to me. I watch him rest his elbows on his knees while watching the dogs play.
“He’s ready.”
“Has he been around kids? I don’t want any issues when the baby comes,” he says, glancing over at me.
“All my dogs are tested with kids, Tide. He’ll be great,” I tell him. He nods his head but keeps watching the dogs. I know there must be something on his mind but I won’t ask in front of Bell. Ican only imagine what he must be thinking with all the shit with Beth.
“He is beautiful,” he says, never turning his head.
“He is. He’s going to the groomers soon for a bath and all that before you can take him.”
“I can bathe him,” he adds quickly, now turning to look at me.
“I know you can, but we do this with all our dogs, Tide.”
“He’s not just one of your dogs.”
“I know. I’m glad you love him already,” I tell him with a smile.
