She laughed as he dumped the boxes onto the bed and knelt beside it, grin aimed at her. “I freaking love your pantry.”

“Stepmom life. Gotta have the snacks stocked.”

He arranged the boxes around her and then grabbed his phone and held it up.

“This cannot be a flattering picture,” she argued, covering her face with the sheets.

He pulled it back down. “You naked, with wild hair because you were just fucked by me, while surrounded by my favorite snacks? Come on.”

She eased the sheets down to show more of her face. “If it looks horrid, I have delete privileges.”

“Deal.”

He pulled his phone back up and took a picture. He studied it with this soft smile on his face and such hungry tenderness in his eyes. He faced his phone toward her and showed her the image.

In it, her breasts were covered by the sheets, and she had the edge of it gripped just at her chin. Her eyes were clear and happy as she looked slightly above the camera at Tabian. She looked…in love.

The snacks were a funny touch.

“This is hands-down my favorite picture in the entire world.”

“Really?”

“I swear it. Can I keep it?”

She nodded. “Okay.”

He pulled her hand to his lips and pressed a long kiss to her knuckles. “I like being around you.”

“Me too. I really do. I was so sad last night when I thought I needed to set you free.”

He kissed her knuckles again. “Gonna have to try way harder to get rid of me now. I’ve felt your pussy.”

“Tabian! Ew, don’t say that word.”

“It’s the best pussy in the world.”

“Barf. No more snacks for you. You’re in trouble.”

He was chuckling now and slid into bed beside her and pulled her close. “You make me happy.”

“Really?” she asked, just wanting to hear it again. No man had ever said that to her before, and she hadn’t known she needed to hear it so much until now, in this moment with the man she was falling in love with.

“Tru, if you were a werewolf, you could hear the truth in my voice.” He brushed her hair back behind her ears. “You will have to trust me.” He nodded and leveled her with a look. His eyes swam with such earnestness. “You make me really happy.”

She closed her eyes at how good it felt to hear those words and nuzzled her cheek against the palm of his hand. If she could bottle up this feeling and save it for rainy days, she would.

He cared for her. Not because of what she could do for him, but because he just liked her for her.

But…

“We’re going to have to take things slow,” she murmured.

“Because of Bayen?” he guessed.

“Yes. It’ll have to be a separate life with you.”

“Well,” Tabian said as he pulled her into a hug. He rested his chin on top of her head and sighed. “I have a plan for that, but you’re going to have to trust me.”
