Through the peephole, I saw Clip.
I frowned as I flipped the locks and opened the door, “What?”
“Need you,” he said.
I looked back toward the bedroom, then I looked at Clip and lifted my chin.
I knew that it was important if he was here, of all places.
He stepped in and closed the door as I walked back to her bedroom.
I stopped in the doorway and watched her sleep. Just like I’d done so many nights before.
Once I had this new memory sealed into the vault in my mind that consisted solely of her, I stalked to my bag, opened it, pulled out fresh jeans, a tee, and socks, and got dressed.
Carefully, I then headed to the bathroom, lifted my jeans, tagged my keys, wallet, and phone, pocketed them, then tagged my kutte and pulled it on.
I sat down on the edge of the bed and just looked at her for a beat.
Then I pressed a kiss on her forehead and whispered, “Star Shine, I gotta go. Club.”
“Mmkay. Love you,” she whispered in her sleep.
I smiled, pressed a kiss to her pulse point, and whispered back, “Love you, too.”
Chapter 20
Creedence
My eyes opened that morning, and I knew without having to look that he was already gone.
That motherfucker.
I growled as I crawled over the spot he had lain and headed to the bathroom, then screeched when my bare feet hit something that wasn’t the tile in my bathroom, “What the fuck?”
I flipped the light on and looked down.
Then I recalled what I knew it to be.
So, he left his clothes here. He must have changed before he left.
I sighed, bent, gathered up his clothes, and tossed them in the dirty hamper.
I did my business and then made myself some breakfast.
Thankfully, I was off today, so I would be able to get someone to take a look at the damage to my car and get a quote on how much it would be to fix it.
I also needed to call my dad to let him know.
However, before I could do any of that, I heard a key in my lock.
I reached underneath the sink for the Glock my dad gave me the day I graduated from college and flipped the safety off.
Then I hugged the side of the counter and peeked around the wall as I readied a bullet in the chamber.
The door opened, then stopped, “Star Shine?”
I sighed, then cleared the chamber as the door opened fully and he walked in.
